In search of a control setup
-
Hey everyone. I’m rather new to the BMS arena, but played 4.0 a ton back in the day and have played BMS a little now (incredibly impressed!!). Anyways, I was going to upgrade my control set up and was looking for recommendations. I was thinking about the TM Warthog or the Saitek 52 or 56. I would be willing to spend some money, but I dont want to spend $400 and do nothing but fight programming issues. Have the Warthog issues that were going on a month or so ago been worked out? Are the Saiteks quality and relatively easy to use? I want to buy something good, but I dont want to buy a headache.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone!

My recommendation is the TM WH. I’ve had mine since Dec 2010 and it’s not seen the inside of it’s case for that time (I have it mounted on my simpit). Aside from a few initial hiccups on release, I don’t think there are issues with the WH today aside from the perpetual sticktion issue…. were you referring about other “issues”? The TM WH sure is expensive, but 7 years of constant, reliable use makes it really, really, really cheap
A second recommendation is to try and get a stock or modded Cougar for a more authentic F-16 setup… but this one is more for those who are not afraid to go “under the hood” in both hardware and software setups.
I’ve had both WH and Cougars but ended up selling my Cougars because it was simply easier to work with the WH and easier to mount it on my simpit as well. Any questions about the WH or TARGET, I’m sure there will be a few of us happy to help.

Thanks for the input. I was just reading through a couple of the threads that say, problems with target, or doing strange things, and was wondering if that was kind of the norm. On the problems with target thread from ApeX, a couple people had replied that there were some ongoing issues that started in the October time frame. I was just wondering if this was normal.

His problems seem to stem from the fact that he’s using a script that has been modified by a 3rd party… so no problems with TM WH or TARGET but rather compatibility issues. I am also using TARGET and also using Morphine’s script but I’ve used the original script and modified it for my own use. I’ve also connected my WH and all my flight sim gear to a powered USB hub since day 1 so maybe that helps in dealing with the USB issues.

There are TARGET issues because it is complicated and it is user error. But there issues with the software that are not user error. The only major one of the second type is that some environments the script’s managing of devices isn’t working 100% of the time.
Between Windows 10’s device security, USB power and power management, administrator rights, and TeamSpeak’s sloppy joystick interface addon I did have a few issues. But they were annoyances and today it works every single time. I wouldn’t avoid the WH based on a concern over it.

Thanks for the advise guys. I was half way worried that this would start a battle about which device is better, but that didn’t seem to be the case. I went ahead and bought the Warthog this weekend. I found it on sale for $350. Other places had it for 500 or so. Not sure if I got a good deal, but I went ahead and “pulled the trigger”.

You do know it’s a dual-stage trigger, right?
