Refuel with an A10C
-
Simple question : Is it possible to refuel with an A10C in BMS ?
I known it’s possible with many aircraft, but I do not manage to achieve it with the Warthog (even when adapting the FL of the tanker, FL100-FL150 for example).
Is there anything to be done specifically in that case to make it possible or is it just that I need more perseverance ?
Nota : I have search on the forum before but didn’t found any related post.

I would think it should be refuel capable all day long within BMS there is no reason for it not to be…. your refuel door is open correct? The only two reasons you don’t get cleared contact are improper positioning pre-contact and a closed fuel door. Also some A/C have slightly different areas around the tanking aircraft depending on type to achieve pre-contact. For example on the AV-8B within BMS the pre-contact position is between the #3/4 engine where a drogue would normally be, so maybe also check for that even though the A-10 is a boom receiver, it’s pre-contact position could be slightly different from the F-16 within BMS (not the real world.) Wish I could give you an absolute definitive answer, but I don’t fly the A-10 and have never had the occasion in which to attempt to conduct AAR with it.

the biggest problem you’ll have is getting the hog to angels 21,500

Yes, get the tanker down lower to 10,000 for the A-10C.
For extra challenge try refuelling your F-16 at 10,000ft

The way to adjust refuel altitude is in the a10c.dat file (/data/sim/acdata/a10c.dat). The altitude is about 2/3 down the file in the Refuel section, default setting of 17500. Change it to what you would like to refuel at then it will descend when you request fuel.

Thanks for your comments. In fact I manage to arrange the proper altitude for the refuel, I can call the Tanker, I got the “Pre Contact Position” authorization, I got the “Contact Position” authorization, but after that the boom does not seems to move after that.
Do one of you managed to refuel with the A10 ?
Like that, at least I will know it is actually possible and will spend more time trying. -
After some extra tests with both KC-135 and KC-10 tankers it seems that the boom can move but only within very limited angular range, which make the refuel almost impossible with an A-10C as the boom cannot correct even minor position change of the plane.
