How can I use Tacview to estimate turning radius and rate?
I see that distances to locked on targets is displayed. Is there a way to measure distance to an arbitrary point like the center of a turning circle?
Much Thanks!

Tacview 1.8.3 is now available on tacview.net and Steam!

- Release Date: Fri, 1 May 2020
- Operating System: Windows 32-bit / 64-bit
- File Size: 390.6 MB
I am always looking for ways to improve Tacview’s frame rate to make it as smooth as possible, and to compensate for new features added over time, especially for lower-end systems. During my investigations, I have found a few bottlenecks, big and small.
In this version I have already implemented a few optimizations which should improve the performance on lower end systems and make the UI and 3D a bit more responsive. In the following updates, I will work on a bigger optimization which should have considerable impact on missions with a lot of objects.
Always an ongoing project, with the help of my partner BuzyBee, plenty of 3D objects and declarations have been added the to the database so your favorite planes and vehicles are properly displayed. This certainly makes debriefings more comfortable and intuitive!
In addition to new options to customize your experience, there have been several tweaks to make the satellite view more comfortable and weapons impact clearer.
Meanwhile, Tacview 2.0 is still growing up slowly, but surely. All the tools required for its multi-platform development are complete (some are even used to speed-up Tacview 1.x development). The next step (starting soon), will be the development of the core engine, which will include completely rewritten terrain, 3D engine (using Vulkan for portability and performances), as well as a greatly improved telemetry engine, feature-wise. I am as impatient as you are about it, it is a long-term project, slow but steady!
Take care and fly safe!

In Tacview, go to Analysis -> Telemetry 1 to open the telemetry window to see your TRT (turn rate) and TRD (turn radius)
You can measure distance to an arbitrary point by CTRL+SHIFT+DRAG which makes a laser pointer appear and the BRA between the selected object and the red dot will be displayed.

Any chance of Kuwait theatre being added to Tacview?

Any chance of Kuwait theatre being added to Tacview?
Sure, we will add the Kuwait theatre in a coming update.
In the meantime you can try to get it up and running on your machine by following these instructions: How can I import my own Falcon 4.0 terrain in Tacview?

Here is the image of the Tacview Height Control.
When I click the control on/off I know it turns the height bars on/off in the main window of Tacview.
But what does the list of menu items do? -
Good question !
This is an experimental feature to display visual cues about the variable of your choice.
For example, by default, Tacview will make part of the wall darker/brighter depending on how strong the G Force is.
Now, there are already so much information on screen that it is quite difficult to read the trail brightness change.
Maybe one day, I will go back to this feature and see if I can improve it to make it more useful…

Hello all
I have created a little Addon for Static Objects for the Balkans Theater.
The Addon includes 3 Files to be added either to%ProgramData%\Tacview\Data\Static Objects\ or %APPDATA%\Tacview\Data\Static Objects\
Following files come with the package
-BalkanAB.xml : Airbase names of all 115 Airbases and Airstrips in the theater
-BalkanRWY.xml : All Rnway objects for all Airbases
-BalkanILS.xml : T-ILS Glide slopes Runways / Airbases with ILSAll positions have been extracted from the Balkan te_new.tac converted to match Tacview coordinated and at least every Runway type has been record tested for proper alignment.

Very nice work!
Would you like me to integrate it in the next release of Tacview?
-
Vyrtouz do as you like.
I’m currently doing additinal Theater’s such as NTO as well -

I am viewing an acmi from NTO theatre, and some of the objects are not being displayed correctly.
For example, Eurofighters are displayed with the icon of an E2 Hawkeye.
Is there a way I can configureTacview to show the correct icons?

You could create your own Database xml files. As the DB for most add on theaters don’t match.
I already started but quite a tedious work to find all missmatches<defaultpropertiescollection loadingorder="0.5"><defaultproperties id="Vehicle.Truck.KrAz-T-255B" base="Vehicle.Military.Truck"><criteria><name>KrAz-T-255B</name> <name>KrAz T 255B</name></criteria> <properties><shortname>KrAz-T-255B</shortname> <longname>KrAz-T-255B</longname> <fullname>KrAz-T-255B</fullname></properties></defaultproperties> <defaultproperties id="Missile.AA.Radar" base="Missile.AA"><criteria><name>SU-27</name></criteria> <properties><shortname>AIM-120C</shortname> <longname>AIM1 20C</longname> <shape>Missile.AIM-120C.obj</shape></properties></defaultproperties> <defaultproperties id="FixedWing.Fighter.Jet" base="Core.FixedWing"><criteria><name>J-22***</name></criteria> <properties><shortname>CG-47</shortname> <longname>CG-47 Ticonderoga</longname> <fullname>USS Ticonderoga (CG-47)</fullname> <shape>Watercraft.CG-47.obj</shape> <engagementrange>52000</engagementrange></properties></defaultproperties></defaultpropertiescollection>

I think I am mostly following what you have suggested, but where do I find a list of options for example
Base=“Core.FixedWing”
and
<shape>Watercraft.CG-47.obj</shape>The example below is one I started on. I think “A-10C” in Tacview is actually a JAS-39 Gripen, so I have put the following, where obviously <shape>is wrong, but I can’t find what it should be.
<defaultproperties id="FixedWing.Fighter.Jet" base="Core.FixedWing"><criteria><name>A-10C</name></criteria> <properties><shortname>JAS-39</shortname> <longname>JAS-39 Gripen</longname> <fullname>Saab JAS-39 Gripen</fullname> <shape>Watercraft.CG-47.obj</shape> <engagementrange>52000</engagementrange></properties></defaultproperties> ```</shape>

https://github.com/Vyrtuoz/Tacview/tree/master/Database/Default%20Properties
https://www.tacview.net/documentation/database/en/
https://www.tacview.net/documentation/3dobjects/en/So you could basically even add your own 3d objects shapes
in your case if the JAS-39 shown up as A-10C you could lookup in the default properties on github for the JAS-39 to find the shape name
On the other hand I’m still diging throught the flt -> vhs compile code in order to get the issue catched at the root where it’s obviously caused

oakdesign is right but I can check on my end as well. Can you send me a .vhs file of this error and let me know what version of BMS, Tacview and NTO theatre you are using?

We’ve updated everything on our end for for NTO Polar Vortex v2.4 for BMS 4.34. It will be available in the next beta.

Tacview 1.8.4 is now available on tacview.net and Steam!
Download: https://tacview.net/download
- Release Date: Thu, 20 Aug 2020
- Operating System: Windows 32-bit / 64-bit
- File Size: 408.8 MB
This release improves the support of all your favorite flight sims and even add support for a brand new one everybody is talking about
New maps have been integrated, the database has been expended and tweaked to better display your favorite aircraft, and thanks to your feedback, many tweaks and fixes have been made to improve everyday debriefings.
BuzyBee and I are also experimenting with new addons such as the fuel consumption and turn rate calculators. They are still experimental, and may not work for all aircraft yet, but I am sure you will find them quite useful for your navigation and dogfight analysis. They can be enabled via the “Add-ons” menu.
Meanwhile, I am now putting more and more time on the development of Tacview 2.0. This new generation will be a huge step up, so it could last for the upcoming 10 to 20 years.
Unlike Tacview 1.x, Tacview 2.0 is very open from the beginning, it is like a debriefing Lego bag, which anyone, with little technical knowledge, can easily create addons of any kind to expend and create new data and tools at will. And it runs on all platforms including tablets.
Take care and have pleasant flights
