Solved NEWBIE: Guns/Pickle not firing
-
Hi All…
I loaded v. 4.35.3… all flight actions work well.
I loaded INSTANT ACTION & TEs… Neither Guns nor Pickle worked. Master Arm was on… MRM was on HUD.
What am I missing?
Thanks for you support -
Pretty common newb question (you are not alone). BMS simulates the F-16 controls and modes at a level of fidelity much higher than most PC flight sims… it can be a little perplexing, for those who just jump in to instant-action…
Guns => basically, guns are only hot in ‘dogfight’ master mode. (Or ‘strafe’ submode in AG master-mode.) And doublecheck you have your trigger (or other button or keybd) mapped to SimTriggerSecondDetent. (The trigger’s “first detent” does other things … activates gun-camera recording, targeting-pod laser, etc.)
Pickle => for most missiles/bombs, you have to press-and-hold the pickle button for a second or two (or potentially much longer, eg. for bombs in CCIP mode)
Some missiles are always hot (sidewinders) and will launch immediately when pickle is pressed. But they’re the exception … most other AA and AG missiles require a target to be locked and within valid firing parameters, or the missile won’t come off the rail.
HTH… welcome to Falcon BMS!

@billsirkill The gun only fires when it is selected which only occurs in 3 conditions:
AA master mode, GUN submode
DGFT override mode
AG master mode, STRF submodeMissile override is notably not one of the modes where the gun is selected. Shooting an AIM-120 (the only missile currently in the medium-range category) depends on all sorts of pre-conditions for launch.

Thanks for you supportAs others have said, pickle time is a thing…for AMRAAMs you have to press and hold. For other weapons like JDAMs, you pretty much press and hold ~8 seconds before the indicator reaches your FPM up until you see your FPM blink to indicate the bomb released.
