Help, the Falcon 4.0 can no longer be installed.
Please help me.

My default recommendation, is to pay a small gratuity to the nice people who maintain these 20+ year-old installers to work on modern operating systems.
https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/6808/gog-falcon4-to-bms-for-dummies/23But if you have an old cdrom, and you really want to use it… I’ve heard rumor that rebooting Windows into “safe mode” will allow it to install successfully.
I have no explanation as to why… probably something to do with UAC folder/registry redirection… or the ancient DirectX runtime getting confused when it sees a modern GPU and monitor.
I also don’t know if there are any special risks to consider, with the old 1998 installer… frankly I’d be a little concerned about whatever ancient codecs and runtime libraries (DirectX 5? 6?) it may dump on your system.
The installer from GoG seems quite clean and self-contained… doesn’t require their Steam-like “GoG Galaxy” software to be installed or running.
