Night Time Lighting & Texture Problem
-
My current settings, turning on per-pixel or per-vertex seem to have no effect at all
edit: and I hope you have the taxi light on in the pictures…
Haha, everything is on, plus there’s my flight lead about 20 feet in front of me in the second pic and I can’t see him unless I turn on NVG. Like I said, there’s something wrong with the lighting and I can’t figure out why.

Go to your “falcon bms.cfg” file in User/Config folder. In the MISC section, look for “set g_fAmbientmin 0.1” Make sure it’s set to 0.1 Trippp

At night, I find that lights from other jets (anti-collision, red/green position or navigation lights) are not very visible. Obviously, this is without NVGs.

I am trying to ensure that I have as good night-time visibility options set as possible. I have set the AmbientMin to 0.1, but then I found this old thread and it refers to a per-pixel setting which I would like to try out too. But that setting is gone? It is not in options, nor in the Falcon BMS.cfg.

Can anyone clarify what happened to that setting - and if you have any other tips for nighttime orientation? For instance the bloom and blur setting in Setup-Graphics, would they affect nigtttime visibility?

Thanks,
JayB

@jayb I believe the per pixel setting in config was taken out with Dx11 update, others would know better. Lot of folks are hoping for better aircraft light visibility with newer/better improvements with Dx11. They are quite dim…

@riceygringo WHAT? i don’t have that option “lighting effect”, what is wrong? i have reinstalled the game.

@Gear5 that screenshot is from 2017, and probably from 4.33. 4.35 no longer has those options, as I mentioned above.

@Quasi_Stellar oh thx.
i didn’t notice the time.

Hi everyone, in the dark at night, I have the same problem. I have no problems expect BMS 4.35 Block 50. Block 40 C/D Block52+ CFT is ok. Even night vision dosn’t work. When I start the “Ramp Start” it gets dark. But if I start a “TAXI or TAKEOFF”, its fine. Or when its night after sunset, its fine again. This time, when I turn of the engine, it get dark again. I think its probably a graphic card or DX support issue.

@alfistaaykut You might be having a different issue from what we are discussing here. Night vision goggles should work always (key:N). Sounds like you may have some keymapping issues, or perhaps you are running a special theatre ?

I understood from the screenshot above that it is the same as mine. However, I may not have explained it well. My resale with new screenshots. I am using KTO.

@alfistaaykut for a ramp start in the dark, use the spotlight Shift-s on qwerty, after you flip the battery switch. Once the engine is running, you can turn on panel lights. 4.35 did turn down the outside ambient lighting, especially on moonless nights. And NVGs in BMS don’t seem to take into account lights from city glow, hangers, and other random light sources.

Screenshot:

https://www.hizliresim.com/qw1gp8h

All aircrafts, support vehicles, supply tools, hangars, taxi line and other models. Nothing appears. Normal and night vision. Always black. Nothing is visible in the cocpit. For this reason, I cant turn on the battery switch and others. The mark appears when the mouse hovers over instruments. They are there. When I click on any switch that I dont see, an on-off sound is heared. I have the old system. I open it in low resulation. My graphic card is Intel Irıspro 5200 1GB. I have never had such a problem on a different system before. I think its a low system issue. I am Sorry for my English. I hope I am understood.

@alfistaaykut I understand, not a problem. The changes were made to 4.35 to make the moonless nights more dark. Many have used this to make the pit not so dark in startup. Give it a try.
BMS 4.35 tweak for less ultra-dark night with no moon:
1. Close BMS.
2. Go to your ‘Falcon BMS.cfg’ file in X:\Falcon BMS 4.35\User\Config
3. Open with notepad and edit the line…
*set g_fAmbientmin 0.XXX // Allows to tweak sky brightness at night
*to
set g_fAmbientmin 0.1 // Allows to tweak sky brightness at night
Save and close.

I can see cocpit instruments with NV. Problem solved. Thank you very much. I think I’ve been unfair to my system.
@alfistaaykut glad you got it sorted.
