Solved CTD: Can't even Taxi
-
All of the Falcon Versions up till now (4.36) worked flawlessly for me over the years. Now with 4.36, 4.36.1 and 4.36.2, I can’t even taxi more than 100 yards and CTD. Every time. Sometimes even if I just sit there and not move, it CTD in about 30 seconds. Hopefully someone can help.
System is ASUS RoG Strix Z390-E, i7-9700k, Winbdows 11, 64GB DDR4, Nvidia RTX 2080Ti, 3840x2160 native resolution.
BMS version 4.36.2(x64) Build 26508Crash File from BMS folder:

Ok guys, I was leaning towards my video card the other day but it worked flawlessly during several 3DMark stress tests. So then I figured must be something else.
Low and behold my system shut down and kept trying to restart and I knew there had to be a short somewhere. I unplugged the power from the card and the computer stayed on instead of trying to restart itself every few seconds. Needless to say, I removed the 2070Ti and tried it in an older system I had and the same issue.
I decided to take a old 6790 card from another system I had and put it in my gaming system and it booted. I then download all the latest drivers and then started Falcon and everything works . It’s a very slow card and I can’t play it in high res, but it does work. I have an RTX 3070 on the way.
Anyhoo, I disassembled the 2070 To and wouldn’t you know it, the graphics processor had several cracks in it and pieces of the metal had broken out. When the new card gets here, I’ll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for your help.

@Sabert00th I see the mono-log, can you post the *crash.txt file?
And repro steps for the crash… TE or Campaign? Single-player or MP?
Any theaters or other mods installed?
-
Seems D2DERR_RECREATE_TARGET error is being returned by D2D EndDraw, not really sure of the reason though… In theory this is a recoverable error (and maybe we could even ignore it) but I’m not really familiar with this code.
Just in case, have you tried reinstalling?
-
@airtex2019 Where can I find the *crash.txt log. This happens in the TE although it could happen in campaign but I haven’t tried that.
The steps are, for example, doing the benchmark TE, I am put in the cockpit, I throttle up and usually after just after making the right turn to the taxiway it goes CDT. This happens in nearly every TE. Ground TE, CTD before I make it to the runway, Landing TE fly for very short time and CTD.
I did not have any extra theaters or any mods to the game. I will say though, when I could not get the included theater to work, I downloaded the newest Taiwan theater and it does the same thing.
-
@Seifer I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times and same issue.
-
@Sabert00th thanks, was just double checking. No overclocking on your side?
-
@Sabert00th it will be something like
"C:\Falcon BMS 4.36\User\Logs\2022-08-01_175735_crash.txt"
-
@Seifer I had very modest OC but put everything back to factory and it still had the same issue. I am leaning towards the video card though.
-
@airtex2019 The only file that was in that directory was the one I posted. Interesting that file does not exist.

@Sabert00th well that’s the most interesting post-mortem crash analysis I’ve heard today.
Good job narrowing that down. Asking “are you sure there are no cracks in your chip” isn’t on our tech support script… lol
-
Indeed, interesting… let us know how it goes when the 3070 arrives. Thanks and keep reporting!
