Solved sound problem
-
I have a sound problem since the Windows update in April:
First of all:
I have not made any changes to any settings in BMS.
The problem occurs in all TEs and with the F-15c and the F-16 Blk.50.
I can only hear part of the sound generated by BMS. Neither the communication with wingman and ATC nor the acoustics of the RWR. The display of communication on the screen, when I switch it on, works.
The “normal” sounds such as switches, canopy, engines, weather work. IVC - no probs.
Does anyone have any idea where something could be wrong? Before I reinstall BMS, I would prefer a simple fix to the problem.Prot

@Prot Maybe ivc got switched to different speakers as default When I updated my video drivers thats what happened.

@Prot Did you try reinstalling BMS after Windows update?

there are volume-knobs for those particular things… double-check?
-
@Icarus At this state no but now i did.

I have completely uninstalled BMS and downloaded and installed everything again. Of course, I backed up all my settings before:
- campaign folder
- complete user/config
- IVC client.ini
- alternative louncher config
- RTTclient.ini
Started, no change.
My conclusion: There must be something wrong in some .ini or .cfg file.
So I opened setup/sound and moved the sliders. Then pressed the speaker button for all of them.
It did not work: - Engine external
- Sidewinder
- RWR
- Comm1
- Comm2
- Intercom
- SoundEffects
I then moved a slider from an item that was not working, pressed accept and close, closed BMS. Opened setup/sound again, set slider to the recommended value, clicked on speaker -> still doesn’t work.
Tried several more times by adjusting, saving and resetting.
And suddenly, oh wonder, the - Engine external
- Soundeffects
worked again, all other sounds did not.
Perhaps someone can tell me in which file these settings are saved and whether they can be changed from outside BMS.
And:
Perhaps the programmers could be persuaded to save ALL configuration files in one folder so that you don’t have to search for everything if you need to reinstall the software. -
After another reboot, the sound works completely again. But somewhere in this interface between setting, saving and retrieving the values for the programme there is something wrong.

@Prot I recently had sound issues when Nvidia installed it sound drivers. I uninstalled and disabled them and all was good. Same with Nvidia USB drivers.

Yes, that could have caused the problem. But what I don’t understand:
All parts of the BMS sound output are surely already put together before they are transferred from BMS to the operating system. Otherwise the individual sounds would have to appear somewhere in the Windows settings. -
@Prot Only other thing I can think of is Windows security decided a couple of your sound files were infections. Weirder things have happened with that.

Just flew again, same error. But at least I now know how to fix it. It’s just very annoying.
