Tacview – Understand what happened during your last flight! (alternative ACMI viewer)
-
It would be nice if in Tacview, it would be possible to have the telemetry readouts above the aircraft, and follow it through the maneuvers as it is the ACMI of BMS. It is much easier to analyze data when your eyes don’t have to move several inches away and compare multiple “boxes” with various telemetry listed in table. Of course, you can pause the track anytime, but you lose the fluidity of your analysis by constantly having to stop the track and look at telemetry. It’s just really nice to see both telemetry and maneuvers at the same time.
AFAIK he has something similar on his “TO DO” list
here is a copy from website
_Here a list of the main coming improvements. They are sorted in planned order. Since I’m developing Tacview during my spare time and when I’m inspired, I cannot give you any release dates.
Add support for IL-2 Sturmovik, Fighter Ops and Jet Thunder
Tactical overview
Something to enable a network debriefing
Analyse flight in real-time using network connection
Displaying pseudo radar/IR locks
Export a debriefing in XHTML
Filter to customize displayed events in the flight log and also something to add bookmarks
Customize displayed information in the 3D view (IDs, altitude, speed, …)_ -
I hope IL-2 stands for the newer version: http://il2sturmovik.com/ and not the old one.
Fighter Ops??? Are they working on FighterOps again?
-
And that would have a secondary pleasant effect. Getting rid of the boring long period after a flight while the acmi saves.
Right, good point.

@A.S:
Right, good point.
But now I think it is moot, because in shared memory you only have your own data? No enemies, no shots, no anything else.
-
Good question.

From what I know Falcon 4 shared memory is broadcasting data only for the main aircraft. There is no data about any other unit on the battlefield. So the bests replay results would be BMS recording ACMI files directly in native Tacview format. That way all data could be as accurate as BMS developers want and could contains any data you want.
Tacview public native ACMI format is fully documented here (note that it is going to be revamped and improved in Tacview 1.4):
http://lomac.strasoftware.com/tacview-flight-recordings.phpAnd with the advanced telemetry, you can already record ANYTHING you want in Tacview files (even squawk codes to take an exotic example). I forgot: The paragraph about advanced telemetry is missing; I didn’t have the time to write it yet. Just let me know if you are interested and I will add it to the documentation.
Meanwhile, I’m going to check as soon as possible how I can improve the support of VHS files to get replays as accurate as possible of BMS flights. Be patient, I have two other small but important tasks to complete before doing this.

This smells like cooperation between BMS and Tacview to find good solutions gents …. Mav-JP?

Shared memory over network… but that would imply all clients run tacview at the same time …

Which brings us to something like F4Awacs (OSC). How about expanding the data being sent by the Validator there?

Well no much need of this… F4AWACS has fine record function that works great and u have full view of everything there… whole map and whatever objectives u need like…
Sure lacks firing events and kills hits but maybe this question should be addressed to Monster. -
hey. i was just wondering about this and if it’s a bug:
sometimes it’ll display names, and sometimes it won’t. i run the server for a few friends and they connect to it, then we fly a sortie or two together. i start recording usually once we arrive near target, and sometimes it will say "f-16 (name) and sometimes it won’t. it will instead give the packages’ name so instead it will say F-16 (cowboy 2-1) or whatever. why the difference? doesn’t seem to matter when i start recording and it’s intermittent; sometime it will display all of the flight with names, sometimes none, sometimes some.
sorry to bother you over this as it’s a small issue i don’t care about that much. it could also be an issue with the F4BMS built-in recorder, and not tacview itself.
do you know anything about this?
-
Hello Cik,
Can you share me several VHS files which are showing all the different ways your F-16s are named? (proper name, group name, no name…)
Please, let me know for each of them how and when they have been recorded.
-
yeap this is common I crosschecked with many ACMI’s from many flights.
Same flight recorded from different members the naming is not the same on all…
Must be a Falcon thing - MP issue also leaving rejoining aircraft or mission kind of thing and I have a hunch it has to do with connection quality - speed? -
If someone exits multiplayer before you stop recording the ACMI then it will show the flight name (i.e. Falcon 12). If they are still connected when you stop recording the ACMI it will show their callsign (i.e. Darkman).

So if he stays in the lobby then all will be fine?

Tacview 1.2.6 is available!
http://www.strasoftware.com/download/tacview
This version offers a preliminary support for file merge. This is mainly useful to merge recordings coming from different planes in real life. You can also import CSV files. This format can be easier to generate than GPX files in some cases. Target hit events recognition has been improved and you can now export the flight log in a CSV file very easy to read and inject in your leaderboards.
The replay has been improved too: You can now display the aspect angle between selected objects. The long awaited auto scale-up option will give you both an excellent tactical view while keeping everything clear at a dog fight scale.
I will try to offer you constant improvements like in this release while I’m rewriting step by step Tacview to reach an awesome v1.3.
Any feedback is welcome!
Enjoy!
Vyrtuoz- ADDED: Support for file merge
- ADDED: Option to auto scale-up distant objects
- ADDED: Support for flight recordings in CSV format (require at least Tacview Home)
- ADDED: Flight log can now be exported in CSV format
- ADDED: Aspect Angle can now be displayed between selected objects
- ADDED: Attacker is now displayed and exported for has_been_destroyed events
- ADDED: You can now scroll in time with left+right mouse buttons
- ADDED: A clear error message is now displayed in case of invalid command line
- ADDED: /? Command line option to display the command line help
- CHANGED: Improved the flight log XML export to be as easy to handle as the new CSV format
- CHANGED: Improved hit events detection to give more accurate results
- CHANGED: Falcon 4 BMS terrain is now selected by default while opening “Falcon 4.0” VHS files (instead of selecting Falcon 4 Old terrain)
- CHANGED: Slight improvement of objects auto-selection when opening a file
- FIXED: A crash when opening or merging files which are taking place over several years
- FIXED: XML dates more accurate than one second are now properly handled (improves GPX files support and XML debriefing export)
-
Well done !
-
Some feature request if possible to have ac types in view mode , i mean instead of triangles to have small F-16 , or F-15 , or Mirage 3d objects.
regards

How can we display a totally new theater map in tac view? When we open the file has an option to select theater. So it loads this, when opened if u choose falcon terrain stays the same.

I´ve noticed the same, but maybe it will work AFTER laoding a vhs or acmi file ???
