Falcon BMS Alternative Launcher (Easy Setup, Keep Joystick Assignments)
-
A friend of mine has the same sticks. X56 logitech. What files do I need to give him to have my same configuration?
-
Many thanks for this brilliant software!
Two questions:
1. How to enable joysick force feedback (FFB) in BMS 4.34 U4?
2. How to use alternative launcher for several different BMS installs? At the moment my 4.33U1 alternative launcher located in 4.33U1 folder starts the 4.34U4 version somehow. -
Do not enable Force feedbck in 4.34 or you might encounter CTD.

4.33 works fine with FFB, so I will stick with it for now.
Wondering about the second question though. I’ve reinstalled 4.33 U4 and its Alternative Launcher, but the latter still starts my 4.34 version that is in a different folder. How do I point the AL to my 4.33 install?

Now I get the dreaded “Could not find FalconBMS Installed” with freshly installed 4.33 U1. I’ve deleted the 4.34 registry entry, freshly reinstalled the 4.33 U1, lauchned the game once (edited joystick axis and flew in 3d for a minute)… Regedit sows Falcon BMS 4.333 U1 as the lone entry under WOW6432Node>Benchmark Sims. The installed folder is E:\Progs\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1
Googling found me this, but I can’t quite make sens of it and in any case my BMS folder name matches the installed version:

Could you let me know your FalconBMS install directory name?level 2

A:\Alt Progam Files\Falcon BMS 4.33
Launcher is installed in A:\Alt Progam Files\Falcon BMS 4.33\Bin\x86
(Yes, I know I spelled Program wrong)
I suspect it could have something to do with the spaces in the name of the directory? Also, thanks for the quick response!level 3

Are you installing BMS 4.33U1 not 4.33.0 right? Alt Launcher look for its install directory name and defines which version of BMS is installed. BMS 4.33 and BMS 4.33 U1 is considered different software because of separate registry. Alt Launcher look for 4.33.0 install instead of 4.33U1 that might be a case.Solution would be:
Reinstall BMS install directory name as “Falcon BMS 4.33 U1” or
Launch Alt Launcher with command line "/bms “4.33.1"”

Thanks! Adding /bms 4.33.1 to the shortcut fixed it.
I named the folder “Falcon BMS 4.33” without the U1 just because I thought it sounded weird. I had no idea that it used that to check the version. Please help!
EDIT: clean reinstall of 4.34 U4 with prior deletion of all registry traces, launch the game - yay, FFB works! Alternative Launcher install and… yay FFB still works! No idea what is going on with the 4.33, I am sticking with the 4.34 now.

Would it be possible to have the Alternative Launcher - a great and very helpful piece of Software btw - start again once I terminate Falcon?
I like to do my planning in Full Screen , but actaully fly the Mission with Winow mode checked. -
I have developed a problem with Alt Launcher v1.51 since last night when I had a BSOD in Windows 10 while ACMI was compiling.
Now I cannot start Alt Launcher without it crashing immediately (and twice) with “FalconBMS Alternative Launcher Cs” has stopped working.
I can still start BMS without Alt Launcher, and I can run other programs without error, but Alt Launcher won’t start.
I thought it would simply be a matter of re-copying the Alt Launcher files from the zip again, but that hasn’t worked. Windows 10 restore hasn’t worked either - it says that Windows Restore did not complete successfully (with all available restore points).
Are there any suggestions for things I can try to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.

First of all, grettings for the nice job you did.
¿It is posible on windows mode to have the borders available, so we can minimize if we need to do something else?.
Thank you.

There might be an issue concerning the ME.
Editing a TE-file by opening the ATO-menu and editing the task/action of a package causes a gamefreeze. This does not happen using the vanilla BMS Launcher.Best regards

You can set this up through the “Cockpit Display Extraction” config utility - under Main 2D, enable Borders and they will be available in both 2D and 3D.

Is there a way to use more then 32 DX buttons?
I have a TARGET Profile with all switch states as own DX button, when i try to use a button with a higher DX number then 32 it does not get recognized by the launcher… -
You could use vjoy and JoystickGremlin to split up a physical Device with more than 32 DX Buttons in to multiple virtual devices with each max at 32 DX Buttons

I am installing VSCode at the moment. I won’t delete the path you mentioned (yet), in case you want something from there.
Ready for further instructions

Well, I have already fixed the problem thanks to your advice.
The user.config file was truncated. I could tell because there were 4x folders in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\chihiribelmo (2 for 1.5.1.0 and 2 for 1.4.0.0) and the older ones were not truncated. I just renamed the truncated file and Alt Launcher starts happily again!
Content of the bad file.

Hi chihirobelmo,
I understand correctly that if I want to load a certain profile, al I need to do is to rename the .key file of that profile in “BMS-Full.key” (after having made a backup of the original one) and loading it with Alternative Launcher ?
Thanks -
Thank you for the efforts on this tool - I have tried for many weeks to get the assignment of my TM Hotas to work without breaking every time i restart BMS - now I got rid of TARGET and every single button, switch and axis of my HOTAS and Pendular rudders just works flawlessly. !!
Honnestly - it was driving me mad and away from BMS but now I am finally able to concentrate on flying and fighting

Hi, I just installed Alternative Launcher and is great, but I found an issue that is driving me creasy; Alternative Launcher reverted to BMS - FULL keyfile and I can’t set the one I was using.
Thank you in advance for your help.
-
That the way AL is working it creates a new full key file every time you launch. You can’t use another one with AL

I’ve seen it reported in this thread that if you rename YOUR keyfile to “BMS - Full.key” AL will load your keyfile assignments, but I think you need to start with a profile BASED ON the full keyfile, i.e. with all the callbacks available in the profile (which is not the case with most custom keyfiles).
You could merge your own keyfile with a full keyfile to achieve this, but honestly it’s probably faster just to recreate your keyfile within AL starting from scratch as it is a good intuitive UI. Just make sure you assign your SHIFT key before assigning shifted actions!
