Falcon freezes when I exit mission

Uncheck html briefing in config

Well I think I figure out the issue here. After extensive research in Forums it seems that this has happen to many people. I did two things and now it is working. I am not sure which one was the fix but here it goes; The problem has something to do with TACVIEW. The first corrective action I took was to go into TACVIEW and found an ACMI file for Falcon in there,. It was a long one and I deleted it. I am still unclear where the file was located because I went into Falcon BMS ACMI file and deleted all associated ACMI files. The next thing I did was disassociated TACVIEW files with Falcon files. When I went into Falcon it has been running like a champ. Thanks to all who helped with this problem. It is the reason Falcon is such a success. Cheers from South Dakota!

I have been plagued by a similar problem when starting a new campaign in Korea a couple of days ago. Exiting a mission usually worked fine in the starting stages, but the longer the mission lasted or when I got shot down over the FLOT for instance end then selecting “end mission”, BMS would hang on the exit screen or return to a black screen after alt-tabbing (I’m running in windowed mode), then I would hear the audio cues when moving the mouse cursor over the 2d map but nothing else.
I uninstalled a few theaters (my BMS install is quite old, the folder is still named “u6” for example ;)), and leaving only Aegean 1.3 and the default ones seems to have fixed the problem (knocking on wood).
Specifically I uninstalled
IKAROS
Battle for Balkans
Sinai
Israel
EMFalso making sure to clean up the “theaterdefinition.lst” in the process in case the theater’s uninstaller didn’t take care of that.
It would be great if a future update would include the possibilty to run completely separate bms installs alongside each other with a shared “package” directory like rFactor2 (racing sim) does it to prevent different theaters from interfering with each other.
All the best, Uwe

Known issue I’m afraid but will/has be taken care off

Thanks, great to hear this one will be / is already fixed.

Others may find this helpful as I managed to fix 95% of my BMS exit hang / crashes:
-
Always shut down your jet after landing (after having taxied to a parking position where other AI planes won’t run into you, like the helipad, requesting chocks and / or engaging the parking brake)
-
Always restart BMS after finishing a mission (BMS often crashes if you fly a 2nd mission in the same instance)
I hope this helps!

Which one ? Hoover has too many theaters installed/uninstalled to be considered !

Not any more, only Aegean 1.3 and stock Korea are installed ATM.
Another hint: Map “Campaign Quicksave” to an easily accessible key combo and do a quicksave before you exit the mission.
Here’s my entry from my keyfile which maps this function to “CTRL-s”:
CampaignQuickSave -1 0 0X1F 2 0 0 1 "Campaign-QuickSave"

Too bad the crashes have returned, even when I properly shut down the jet after a mission. I think this may have to do with my wingmen still being on “egress” and not having landed yet, so it’s the next thing I’m going to try in tracking this bug down (even if it’s already fixed, some hints would be helpful on how to avoid those crashes in the first place).
Campaign quicksave is only so helpful though, I’ve found it loses track of targets hit during a human flight, at least that’s what I can infer from the briefing.txt file (the briefing is being saved it seems, I just never get to see the screen because the sim hangs on the “leaving aircraft” screen).
Also, when I start a mission with an “excellent” prospect in the campaign’s intel screen, the outlook is “bleak” when I reload a quicksave I created from within the flight when bms crashed.
Cheers, Uwe
EDIT: It really is an exercise in frustration trying to play a campaign this way. You spend an hour or two planning your mission only to hold your breath during what should be the easiest part of the flight: Stepping out of the jet to grab a cold one at the bar after an exhausting mission. Shame really.

No more crashes during campaign mission exit for the last week now, thanks to
-
deleting acmi and briefing files before launching falcon
-
disabling campaign autosave in the config file (I had it enabled in order to “save” some mission states when bms crashed in mid-flight which it did quite frequently)
-
Saving and restarting BMS in between missions
Fingers crossed this really fixed the issue, and many thanks to all who posted here in order to help or to describe their problems.
