Unsolved Failed to apply patch [xyz] -- Error in text file swap.
-
So, not sure what I did. Was screwing around with some other software and had to change some page file settings on a storage drive. Thats the only system change Ive made. Next day I’m going through config editor and I make a change. Hit apply and:
Failed to apply patch [xyz] – Error in text file swap.
No matter what option I try to change they all end with this error and [xyz] being the name of the patch option. For example, Failed to apply patch Idle Cutoff – Error in text file swap.
Getting too late to troubleshoot so I figured Ill throw it out there. Any assistance apreciated. Thanks!
Ugh, sorry quick edit. I did reinstall and no change. Is there an extensive registry clean I should do?

@tteddy623 can you post a screenshot of what you see, when you open the Config.exe tool
this tool is aka “F4Patch” and is missing a registry key, on some installs…

Just heads up, I uninstalled/reinstalled and after clean install (trying to be as specific as possible I didnt think to take any screenshots) I continued with updating as it was detected etc, meaning I didnt yet start the game. I let it continue until updated- then started the game. I started with AL, it asked for register pilot, etc.
Went into game, entered cockpit, then exited & exited game.
Then opened config editor and it immediately popped up with error that it couldnt access the"falcon bms config" file but referred to the F4 steam directory. So that was kinda odd. I changed it to the BMS on D:\ and it then error that it couldnt access the falcon bms cofig from D:\BMS 4.37.
I restarted it, it loaded, but then the swap error continued.
Oh, and after all that I reinstalled F4 on steam but no change.

@tteddy623 can you get a screenshot of the actual error?
I’m not finding those exact words anywhere … not sure what to make of it.

I think you need to open up Falcon 4.0 at least once for it to stick so that BMS will run. If you reinstall F4 you may have to do that again

@jayb ok Ill give that a shot thanks!

@tteddy623 Ok, I reinstalled to different drive, ran launcher as admin (which Ive tried a thousand times) and it worked.
Ill try reinstalling back to other drive and post the results.
I’m only guessing some kind of permissions issue is really screwed up deep within the registry. If I have to run AL as admin to make a config editor change i.e. VR once in a while then I can live with that. Not gonna wipe the system just quite yet.

@tteddy623 I can’t say if there’s anything wrong with the registry on your system, but just to remove doubt – there should be no* reason to launch any BMS stuff as admin.
(*it was true in the distant past … and there have even been recent bugs where it was briefly true, before a hotfix was published – but in principle, it should not be necessary)

@airtex2019 Ya its not sitting well for me. Not sure if its registry or just folder permissions but those look good. I run all games on this dedicated pc anyways- just in case I just have to wipe it. Theres a few other games that have started to act up. Thats the reason I was screwing with the page files in the first place. I used to run falcon on a dedicated machine. Maybe I should just go back to that.
