Messing around with the AI
Me doing some guns only practice vs a Mig-21. Personal comments:
-Lead turn could have been better
-Learn how to shoot
Critiques are appreciated. Happy viewing

The music was a great choice for the aerial dancing you did.

video’s nice, high quality, music’s nice. the way you’re trying to kill the mig though; it’s semi-trivial to lag pursuit onto high 6 and just blast him. why try to snapshot from the front like that?

You’re not wrong. The idea was the bandit cannot match my turn rate, so in a 2-circle turn he can’t get his nose on me but if I am patient I can my nose on him. Problem is that takes a while. An even bigger problem is that if he had IR-missiles he would have smoked me. I’ve been doing some more practice with these 21s and this fight really should have lasted about 15 seconds… I could have taken him out right after that lead turn.
So far the 21s only stand a chance if they merge very high speed, like 600+ kias.

Why not?? Any guns opportunity is a good opportunity. Again the idea here is I can pull my nose him while he can’t. If you try and turn horizontally with a 21 for a tracking shot one of two things will happen:
- You will try to reduce closure and match his speed for a shot. Except, now you are extremely slow which is not a good place to be; especially in an ACM environment.
- You will turn with him at high-end corner in the horizontal and ultimately get no where. While you’re turning at your best sustained turn he is turning inside your own turn with his smaller radius. This could go on for days, trust me. The best way to engage a 21 is to bleed all of his energy at the initial merge turn, and take the vertical ASAP. The average engagement should be less than a minute.
I’m not ruling tracking shots out. All I am saying is don’t get slow, and make you shots count.

true, true. i don’t mean to say it was bad form. i do fight mig-21s in the vertical because that’s where they are weakest, once they turn a little bit they drop all of their speed, so while they will still be able to flounder around horizontally they can’t nose up and are vulnerable to repeated snap/tracking passes from above (and IMO, it’s their easiest to hit profile with the big wings and body stretched out below you)
and you are probably right about the early kill, i did notice several points where you ~probably~ could have made a hard 9g in and hit him, though it’s probably safer in the long run to wait a little while. the -21s will try to retain speed by diving, once they run out of altitude to dive into they are sitting ducks i find.
