Here is some process for editing .tlk file. these airbase call outs may not sound so good in some opinions. I want to have two station ils files for now. one with new call outs and one with the no name call outs. original no name stationils file will be in the extras folder for now. this info may be hard to read so there is a link to this at the bottom.1
place TlkTool_v0_2_4_0__x86 foler on your desktop (these directions assume thats where you will have it)create three shortcuts from TlkTool.exe
first shortcut: name it “extract” (or anything to keep organized)
make your shorcut target line look exactly like this except change needy to your own computer’s name.
this will extract .wav files from stock install and put them in a foler called wav folder on your desktopShortcut one’s “target” line looks like this
C:\Users\needy\Desktop\TlkTool_v0_2_4_0__x86\TlkTool.exe TLK2wav “C:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Data\Sounds\falcon.tlk” “C:\Users\needy\Desktop\wav folder”2
dont edit anything yet! finish this process first.important! make a folder on desktop called “spx folder” for some reason it wont auto make this folder
and files will be spilled all over your desktop unless you make this folder first.second shortcut: name it “wav to spx” (or anything to keep organized)
make your shorcut target line look exactly like this except change needy to your own computer’s name.
this will convert .wav files to .spx and put them in a foler called “spx folder” on your desktopShortcut two’s “target” line looks like this
C:\Users\needy\Desktop\TlkTool_v0_2_4_0__x86\TlkTool.exe WAV2SPX “C:\Users\needy\Desktop\wav folder” “C:\Users\needy\Desktop\spx folder”
3
Rename your wave folder to “original wav folder” to collect files to work on from there.
create a new folder called “wav folder” and this is empty for now
4
copy file out of “original wav folder” you wish to replace.
In this case ATC call outs which start at file number 28124 (check them all there are veriaties af same call outs)
after adjusting make sure and save it as 8000hz Mono 16bit or ctd and distortions will happen.put the adjusted file(named accordingly with the original file) in the new folder named “wav folder”
5
Use the second shortcut “wav to spx” and it will add the edited file from “wav folder” folder to the “spx folder” folder.
this way you are only having to add and convert one file instead of the 31,000+ files in “original wav folder” folder.
If you are only adding one eddited file, the dos screen will blink to fast to read, but we know its working from step 2.
or if you want to check it, delete the specific spx file before the conversion and it will be there afterwords.6
Now that the adjusted file is in the “spx folder” folder, the third shortcut will put all spx files into a .tlk filethird shortcut: name it “crunch” (or anything to keep organized)
make your shorcut target line look exactly like this except change needy to your own computer’s name.
this will put all .spx files into a .tlk file, in this case Add on Nordic’s sounds folder .tlk file.Shortcut three’s “target” line looks like this
C:\Users\needy\Desktop\TlkTool_v0_2_4_0__x86\TlkTool.exe SPX2TLK “C:\Users\needy\Desktop\spx folder” “C:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1\Data\Add-On Nordic\Sounds\falcon.tlk”

three shortcuts are needed for this method, you can do them in each step or make them first. the step by step method just explains the target line’s importance as you get there. I see on step six I said “now we will create a shortcut” this is meant to be the last of the three shortcuts needed. 1 extract to wave 2 convert to spx 3 compress to tlk. I will change the wording

Yes I get it. I thought you had lost your mind saying make 3 shortcuts all at the same time(on the same .exe)….lol
Cheers

Also starrats,
Thanks for the initiative in figuring this out and posting it up with all the necessary files and instructions.
You may want to add it to this thread: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?6992-Theater-developmental-notes-Available-Tool-s
I’ll be using it in the future for another theater!!
