AWACS won't automatically callout targets nearby
Hello everyone!
So Iâm just starting with BMS after some time away, and I ran into this issue. The AWACS will only callout targets for me if I ask him for picture, or bogey dope. It wonât callout automatically. Is there a solution for this? Sometimes I can hear him calling out targets for other flights on my package, but not for me.

RE: Can't press the JFS Starter button on F15E
Thank you oakdesign! It worked!
Solution:
Open the file at Data/Art/CkptArt/864/3dbuttons and search for âSimJfsStartâ and replace it to âSimJfsStartCycleâ. For the landing lights search for âSimLandingLightOnâ and âSimLandingLightOffâ and replace it to âSimLandingLightIncâ and âSimLandingLightDecâ. For the parking brakes search for âSimParkingBrakeOnâ and âSimParkingBrakeOffâ and replace with âSimParkingBrakeIncâ and âSimParkingBrakeDecâ. Couldnât make them show up though, but you can click on them now. -
Can't press the JFS Starter button on F15E
Hello guys!
Today I tried to fly the F15-E, so I was following some youtube tutorial on how to start it up. However, I canât press the JFS startup button. Itâs like it is an unclickable button. The cursor doesnât snap to it, and doesnât even turn green. Also, take a look at the brakes switch at itâs right. Itâs like an invisible switch. Is it a bug?
I tried to fly both versions of the F15E, and both show the same issue.
Hereâs a picture:
Also, the landing light switch shows the same issue as the brake switch. Itâs invisible, and I canât press it.

RE: How to remove a callsign from BMS?
Ok guys, update time!!!
I DID IT! Well, most of it is done. Hereâs what I did and how to do it.
1st step: Where to look
First thing I did was to navigate to BMS install folder and take a look at the files. Most of the core files were at the data folder, so I focused on that. Using VSCode I opened up the âdataâ folder and searched for all instances of the word âSatanâ in all the folders, subfolders and files. There were 6 files in total where âSatanâ showed up. They were:
- Data/Campaign/radiomap.dat
- Data/Sounds/f4Talk95v1-0-0.csv
- Data/Sounds/TTSEval.dat
- Data/Add-On Balkans/radiomap.dat
- Data/Add-On Balkans/Sounds/f4Talk95v1-0-0.csv
- Data/Add-On Balkans/Sounds/TTSEval.dat
If I didnât have Balkans installed it wouldâve been only 3 files.
So I thought: âWell, maybe thereâs a remote chance BMS uses a text to speech system and I just need to replace the word for another oneâ. I decided to replace Satan to Sultan.
Result: Comms still call me by Satan, but now the Comms subtitles have changed to Sultan. Nice! Now I had to find where were the audio files.
Looking for the audio files
After some research I discovered that the audio files for BMS comms are stored in a .tlk file, and are compressed using SPX codec. This lightningviper guy (mad props to him!) has on github a collection of tools for working with BMS, and one of the tools is named TlkTool. Basically you use that tool to decompress .tlk files to .wav and other extensions, and you can do the reverse too (.wav to .tlk).
https://github.com/lightningviper/lightningstoolsAfter I downloaded and extracted it to a folder (Desktop/tlktool, in my case) I did the following:
- Copied the file falcon.tlk from /Data/Sounds to /Desktop/tlktool
- Made a backup of falcon.tlk
- Open CMD and navigated to /Desktop/tlktool
- Decompressed falcon.tlk with the command:```
TlkTool.exe TLK2WAV ./falcon.tlk /files
The files were decompressed to the folder /Desktop/tlktool/files, and they were named 1.wav, 2.wav, 3.wav; ALL THE WAY TO 32000+.wav. Annnd, they were the comms files I was looking for.
So I started playing them, searching for the satan files. After some minutes I found some:- 25294.wav
- 25295.wav
- All the way to 25307.wav
With the files in hand all I needed to do now was record some new files with the Sultan callsign and replace the original ones, and then recompress to the .tlk file and put it back in BMS folder.
I used an online voice generator for that, and Audacity to add that radio effect. It suits my needs, but theyâre pretty different from the original ones, so it may break immersion for some.
Make sure the .wav files are 128kbps of bitrate, or else theyâll play in really low pitch. After doing all that and firing up BMS, sometimes my flight was being referred as Sultan, and sometimes Satan, so maybe I hadnât find all the Satan files. It was then that I found out another method that wouldâve saved me a lot of time of trying to find all the files:
The file F4Talk95v1-0-0.csv contains a relation between words and audio files.
There are some lines written like this that refer to Satan (now Sultan, because I replaced it):- 573,14,Sultan,Sultan,SultanâŚ
- 1978,14,Sultan,Sultan,SultanâŚ
- 2925,2,Sultan,Sultan,
These numbers on the first column(573, 1978, 2925) refer to Frag IDs. If you open up fragfile.xml (located on /Data/Sounds) thereâs a relation between Frag IDs and tlkIds (the .wav file names):
<frag id="1978"><speaker voice="0" tlkid="25294"><speaker voice="1" tlkid="25295"><speaker voice="2" tlkid="25296"><speaker voice="3" tlkid="25297"><speaker voice="4" tlkid="25298"><speaker voice="5" tlkid="25299"><speaker voice="6" tlkid="25300"><speaker voice="7" tlkid="25301"><speaker voice="8" tlkid="25302"><speaker voice="9" tlkid="25303"><speaker voice="10" tlkid="25304"><speaker voice="11" tlkid="25305"><speaker voice="12" tlkid="25306"><speaker voice="13" tlkid="25307"></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></speaker></frag>
In the end: the files I needed to replace were:
- 7382.wav all the way to 7395.wav
- 25294.wav all the way to 25307.wav
- 31808.wav and 31809.wav
Compressing the audio files
After replacing these files (located in /Desktop/tlktool/files) I recompressed falcon.tlk. I ran into some issues trying to recompress only the files I modified, so I had to delete falcon.tlk from /Desktop/tlktool and compress all the files in a new falcon.tlk. To compress them, I executed the command:
TlkTool.exe WAV2TLK ./files/ ./falcon.tlk SPX
It takes a while (10, 15 minutes) to compress them.
After itâs done I just had to copy it back from (/Desktop/tlktool/falcon.tlk) to (/Data/Sounds).
Results
So, final resultsâŚ
I could change the Comms system to refer to my flight as Sultan instead of Satan, both on the audio part and the subtitles. Yet, I still couldnât rename it in game (Briefing, flight name on mission planner, debriefing, etc). Personally, the only part that bothered me was when flights were referred as Satan. Since now theyâre referred as Sultan I think Iâm okay with that, and probably I wont try to go deeper in the game to rename the rest.In the link below is my recompressed falcon.tlk file, with Satan replaced to Sultan. Just make a backup of the original (FalconBMS install dir/Data/Sounds/falcon.tlk) and replace it with mine.
Edit: Link below is for BMS 4.34. See the post below to 4.35 files.

NOTE: Youâll still need to replace the Satan ocurrences on the files I listed above to change the Comms subtitles. And, in the link below are the .wav files I recorded, if you ever need them:

How to remove a callsign from BMS?
Hello! Howâs everyone doing?
So, I may sound silly, and maybe even hipocrate, but as someone thatâs Christian I donât feel very comfortable hearing the callsign Satan, be it in my squadron or other squadron. Again⌠it doesnât make sense to play a war game when Jesus is all about love, but letâs not involve religion into this.
Is there a way to remove the callsign from the game? I could use mission commander, but that would be tedious to do all the time.
EDIT: My solution is on page 3
