An improvement for stock korea city tiles
-
Hi!
What to prefer? Most looking like Seoul? Or like “art”?
I want to ask, because I just had a nearer look on the great river in Seoul and there is no harbour line…!
Also other cities mostly (and AFAI could find) have a harbour line only direct at or near to sea.
E.g. you can have a look with Bing maps at 37,531010 127,050295, there you can find no harbour line…
And maybe it is better to place something like that: 37,539865 127,042275? Or like that: 37,575099 127,139311?TIA

Best solution for Seoul would be in my opinion PR tiles for the river Han and the city perimeter, the rest (inside of the city) with standard city tiles. Unfortunately, this is in contradiction with objective location of Korea map and location of the bridges and network of roads. Major city like also should be according to RL scale. Here in Falcon Seoul it is surely large, but not large enough.
It is big, but none less interesting subject to make major Korea cities (or for that matter any major city of other theaters) to look more realistic. I am not even talking any 3D here - just flat 2D layout.

I’m really unsure how to tile it…! And the Bing maps are not given much choices… And there are so many bridges…, bridges here, bridges there, where I would prefer not to use it as tile.
One idea now is to take a land tile with “good curved streets” (if I’m able to find them) and putting a layer of a river strand in. It needs minimum 16 tiles to get the river lines.Overall, all the objects are momentary secondary, this can be done step by step, later, sometime.
Especially the harbor objects, I had a special look for it, even with the default tiles, they do not really fit… And, AFAI could see, they are only to find at sea side.To take RL river picures makes no sense, because there are too less choices that Bing maps give…, but combining land and river can be it. Also then it is possible to add a (mega) riverside street…(for cruising and sightseeing e.g.).
BTW: Have you known that in the Korea map that there is missing a great river in Seoul? From left of the stadium (the object), to right of Seoul airport.

The next question…
The side with the bridge is half/half…, from a 2048 tile 1024 water. The other side is 3/4 of 2048…
???

what is the question?
The side with the bridge is half half -> you probably mean the area-tiles where the bridge is.
From a 2048 tile 1024 water… You mean what with this? 2048 is the new side and the other side is 1024? or the water tile under the bridge? or just the water tile is 1024?
The other side is 3/4 of 2048… so it’s 1536x1536 pixels? how did you do that? -
1 tile = 1 km
If I use half/half of a tile (half water / half land), then I have 1 km water (in the middle).
If I use 3/4 of a tile for land, then I have 1/4 for water, so 500 m water in the middle.
Have a look at the first pic in #45 (ful size) and you will recognize, that the water area, the width of the river, at the bridge side is much greater, as the other side.If I use 1/2 of the tile for water I can make “smoother” curves for the river, but it (the river) will be much wider…
----------------EDIT:
BTW: The great river in Seoul is ~700m wide… -

Hi,
I’m not really happy with this “great” curves, but it depends on the radius. It would use some more tiles to get a better view, but…on to the bridges and the stadium.

Are those tiles so bad?
But, thank you Apollo… -
+1…this looks really great!

Hi,
I want you to show what work it needs…
This pdn-file (from Paint.Net) is 10000*10000, and while working on this, the processor uses nearly 100% and used RAM is ~7 GB (~5 GB only for that file)
First I wanted to save the 10000’ size as a png-file, but that would have had 139 MB!
Maybe someone finds this interesting…Greeting

Hi,
some more pics.
A first throw…
(As you can see the tiles for the harbor line are mostly only turned.)
Thsi is from the sat map…
HCOST798…
I’m now trying to ease a little (can I say so?)…
So still WIP.
I hope I’m not boring someone…Greeting

About the harbor and the cranes and the ships where it needs way much time on your behalf it would be easier if someone made those areas in 3ds max and just place them there. The cranes already exist in the database also tankers exist iirc… there are also containers nove has made some cars so the whole thing can be done perfect.
very nice work by the way!!!
