Speedbrake beep indicator
-
I’m sitting at a desk…there’s nothing realistic about this. I have to twist my head like a parakeet to see if my speedbrake is open, squint and try to zoom in. It’s a pain.
er, no, you dont. You need to look down to your left auxiliary console and check the speedbrake indicator. If its got 9 dots, its open. If its got the word CLOSED on it, its closed.
Alternately, you could just hold down the speedbrakes closed command. Thats what I do normally.

And here we go…
Fair enough then. You lads can use any mod you want. You can use a mod altering you that youre at Vmil for all I care.Just don’t ask or wish for future updates to include them for you.
I really think you know what I mean about realism. I also sit at my desk. I also don’t wear a helmet and oxygen mask ( cough cough for some.)
-
If I owned a helmet and oxy mask, I would so wear that while simming.
Id probably also want to see if I could rig the mic to work through the mask, and get the helmet to play IVC and betty for me. Possibly some kind of breathing apparatus for the mask, so that IVC sounds more realistic…
-
So much effort for realism and you guys want a beeping sound to alert you if the speedbrake is open, as if there is no other way to confirm its status.
What ever :blowpar:
In your blind quest for “realism” you forget that most of us, older guys, wouldn’t be allowed any where near a real jet, were half blind, suffer from hearing problems, cant even touch our toes & if we did manage to climb into a pit probably could get out without the help of a high lift.
Elitist, are the rest of us second class Falcon lovers.
How about giving the rest of us a break.

Yep I always thought you were one of those guys.

I was fortunate enough to meet a guy who although had a tragic accident and was left paralyzed from the waist and down, is larger than life and puts us “able” to shame.
He has been close and allowed into and F-16. Yeah he was helped in by a lift.
You won’t get any pity from me.Yeah Ill give you a break. Use any mod you wish.
-
What if you just let people do what they want ?
I want realism too, but I really won’t mind for a little beeping.
Think of the people who don’t have a Track Ir, or even the one that are just annoyed at searching those 9 dots all the time, I don’t have a Track IR and it’s a real pain in the tail to know if my AB are out or not, and I often prefer to switch to 3rd person, which is an even more realism killer.
-
As per above, you have permission to use whichever mod you would like. Thats it, you have my permission to install whichever mod you like for BMS. Dont waste this valuable offer!
-
Except in some cases … IRL, you wont feel anything than small and light vibrations (and on F-16, IIRC, nothing at all) …
Realism shouldn’t be a reason to be elitist.
Immersion should be an excuses to add fake and non existing feedbacks. This is my personal POV and everybody are feel to “fly” the game as he want.
This is also why I’ve prepared a dedicated sound for more feedback and air-brake, (I just forgot to add it in the stock istall … sorry for that).
So here it is, (will maybe add it as optional in the first 433 uptate) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/296j71agckwfyxc/brakwind%20update%20for%20BMS433.rar?dl=0

Eh…yeah I do. For me, the indicator is somewhat hidden. I have to try to look around the canopy yellow handle thing. And when I do look at it, it’s hard for me to tell if it says CLOSED or if it’s 9 dots. So I have to try to zoom in. I love Track IR, but it gets goofy trying to look at things. I swear I think my wife records me twisting my head around and laughs at me. And the speed brakes close so slowly, that I feel I have to hold the button down forever.
-
You have to hold it for 6 seconds. Its clearly visible without using TIR, so I think it might be your head position.

Yeah I don’t know how easy it is in the real pit, but in my virtual pit it’s an absolute bitch. In the vast majority of cases that I use the speed brake, I can’t afford to uncage my vision.
-
Well, sucks to be you guys then. I dont bother to check the indicator, or time its retraction. I just put the speedbrake switch into the retracted position and leave it there. Works for me.
Guess it helps if you have a 3 position switch which is momentary and springloaded to center from one outboard position, and latches in the other, such as on the cougar throttle. I guess you could make a small switch panel with such a switch on it, if you dont have a cougar?
Before I got one, I was using the k-switch on the X-65F, which is momentary in both directions. I just dealt with it by holding the retraction button for a long period of time after extending it. 10 to 15 seconds. I didnt bother counting, just waiting till it was definitely retracted.

IMO, It is painful only for ppl without a proper HOTAS correctly mapped or for ppl using the AB toggle rather than IN/OUT buttons callbacks.
i.e. On a COURAG (do not know for WARTHOG) you press “Close AB” (mono stable switch) and just keep it in position. That is all. No need to worry more.
-
I can confirm how good the Courag’s SPD BRK switch is.
Edit: that cougar throttle is much shinier than mine. Gonna have to upgrade mine sooner or later…
-
Well, sucks to be you guys then.
No way, it’s great to be me, ask the prone-to-violence-cop-wife.
Anyhow, I have a Cougar but use my x65. However I do prefer the TQS and the speedbrake switch is very good. Thinking of getting that USB modulator to use my TQS with the x65 stick.
Now, even though the viper doesn’t have a brake open sound notification in RL, it damn well ought to.
-
I used to have the cougar stick plugged along with the X65 throttle, so I could use the X65 stick with the cougar throttle. Would recommend. Of course I then went to an FCC3 and I recommend that as being better.

Did you need any kind of adapter? If so, can I buy it from you brother?
