Multiple monitors
-
Hey all,
I was wanting to set up a multi monitor cockpit and was curious about screen resolution. My current system is an alienware laptop with a 1680x1050 screen. For the monitors to run smoothly would I have to have all other monitors the same resolution or can they be different. I was looking at used monitors and found a couple cheap ones that are 1440x900 resolution. Will this work with my current setup?
Thanks

For the nVidia/AMD solutions it’s best for them to be the same. For example if you combined a 1920x1080 with a 2000x900 the monitors would both run in 1920x900 each, under native. The resulting frame buffer has to be a rectangle.

So if I had one monitor at my current resolution and two at 1440x900, I would just run 1440x900 as the resolution on my laptop?
-
Yeah, it’d force your laptop screen to match the others. The valid configurations would be 3x1 or 1x3.

Ok excellent. Thanks for the info!

You CAN game with different resolutions. SoftTH is the program you want to use. IIRC it doesn’t sacrifice the higher-res monitors and doesn’t force it to lower resolutions.
Good luck!

That’s the name of it! I was trying to remember. I used to use SoftTH with Falcon but I don’t know how compatible it is with 64-bit anything.

Looks very interesting. I’ll give it a go once I get my third monitor.

Just out of curiosity, how is the SoftTH with TrackIR?

Completely independent. It works just as well as not SoftTH.
