Server crashes entering 3D
-
Hi,
I cannot get bms 4.33u1/2 running on our new root server.
Server always crashes when entering 3D.
Hardware: i7-6700, 64gb ram, OS: Win Server 2012r2

Any idea what could cause this crash?

Does you server have a sound card? If not, set up a virtual one.
Most probably it also does not have a dedicated graphics card, check this thread: https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24564 -

Already installed VB cable. It shows up on audio devices and I can hear the bms ui sound via teamviewer.I7 supports DX11 and we have no issues running dcs for example. So bms should also work without sthalik’s “no-render” mod?
-
You need a dedicated graphics card in your server (or your use sthaliks mod) or cant run BMS.
DCS is a complete other story. Don’t forget BMS is still on DX9.
-
hm, not sure if it is the GPU because the i7 renders the loadout screen and the 3d preview screen in the bms ui without issues.
Also with sthaliks mod the crash is still the same.
-
IIRC it cant find the mouse device which will cause this crash

Our dedicated server runs without attached mouse, keyboard or monitor without a hitch. It’s just the plain PC maintained via remote desktop.

He can commit to 3D though so in 2D mouse device is found and in use.
Did you copy the install from a previous installation or was it a fresh install?
Also, have you gone through all the settings as input devices, graphics settings etc and made sure they are valid?
Check if the bms window is not opened off screen, via the cockpit display extraction in the bms launcher. Should be at 0,0 iirc. -
I run bms on the server via shortcut + “-window”
On Input it only shows keyboard.
-
can you upload the “dmp file” somewhere so I can take a better look ?
-
here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/kxsutq70m1jjz6n/2016-12-15_185156_crash.dmp
and thanks for your help
-
No worries thxs for posting the dmp file will check this evening
I still think it has something to do with the mouse though as the line in the crash txt file points to mousse device and you cant see mouse in the setup section although obviously it has one
does the same thing happen if you use the 32 bit option ?
-
copy, it crashes also in 32bit.
It has more a less a mouse via remote I guess
Not sure if I had a mouse shown in the setup on the our old server. -
Ok had a check and asked for a check on my check just to be sure I wasn’t going mad
Its definatly crashing due to not finding a mouse remote 2d your using virtual mouse would be my guess but the code checks when going into 3d for device id of hardware which is where it crashes as there is none any possibility of physically connecting a mouse to check ?

Small update:
Its now running on our server. I did activate “Turn on Mouse Keys” in the ease of access section (windows). :wfish:
Anyway thanks for your help
-
Glad you got it going
-
Same crash (…\siminput\sidevice.cpp) with dedicated server, OS Windows Server 2019 standard, using TightVNC to remotely access the desktop and the Falcon BMS UI.
Used same solution advised by sorcer3r (turn on mouse keys in ease of access section).
Problem solved.
Thank you all!
