F4Wx – Real Weather Converter

Your app should be included in default BMS package IMO
Thanks JP! Sure that would be my honor Still missing a couple of things before I call it final release though, just no time at the moment to finish it!
any update to not being able to change day yet?
Can you elaborate on this Jambo? I thought that the only problem with that was fixed on build 39.
-
sorry didn’t realize that you had updated post #1 with update. thanks
-
How did I not see this until now?! Super cool, Ahmed - nice work!
-
Does it work for you? I can not download any files

Hi Ahmed…
Can you add option Clouds and contrails like this?Sry for my eng. I hope you understand me )
-
Hey Ahmed. If you decide to support that feature, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help. My code is available at https://github.com/candera/weathergen, but I’m also happy to explain what I did.

Hi Ahmed…
Can you add option Clouds and contrails like this?I’ll consider it for the final version, but at the moment I have literally zero time for BMS so it will take some time.

Thanks Tyrant for the offer, I’ll let you know!

Have been using this tool for quite some time now and I must say I am addicted !
Well Done !!!
One thing still eludes me for some reason:
The first file that is being put in the campaign save folder:
1. Its time corresponds to when one is in the pit or for when you click ramp/ taxi and the clock starts running (from TE/ campaign current time)?
2. Do you need this file in the weather folder or only those after? -
One more question…
Save weather doesn’t allow to set day 0 anymore.
Is it because Sync with real timezone made it unnecessary? -
1. Its time corresponds to when one is in the pit or for when you click ramp/ taxi and the clock starts running (from TE/ campaign current time)?
BMS loads the files whether you are in 2D or 3D world at the given time, so the appropriate weather will be active both in the cockpit and during planning/briefing.
2. Do you need this file in the weather folder or only those after?
Before activating the auto-updating (sorry don’t remember the exact name) option in BMS you need to load an ‘initial’ fmap file. Some people thus prefer to put the first file in the campaign save folder instead of in the WeatherMapUpdates folder, but it is entirely up to you (personally I set a start time of lets say 5:01 hours, load a default weather map, and 1 minute later the ‘real’ weather will get updated anyway without having to move files).
One more question…
Save weather doesn’t allow to set day 0 anymore.
Is it because Sync with real timezone made it unnecessary?Yep, as day 0 doesn’t exist in BMS, and timezone matching is done inside the tool, I saw no reason to leave that ‘hack’ there.

Great tool, love how it streamlines the old functionality of grib2fmap. One quick thing I noticed is that recently it keeps giving me the warning that it cannot sync with real-time timezone and it seems to always try and make Korea GMT +8 rather than GMT +9. If I pull data form prior to March 12, I don’t get that warning, so Im wondering if there was a change with the NOAA data source for daylight savings.
-
I just tried and got no warning, can you elaborate more on how to reproduce?
Regarding DST, that I am sure some people will be wondering about as we hit summer time, it was one of the things left to code when I released the open beta. At the moment I am busy with RL and have no time to dedicate to coding, so what I can suggest is to use the “Custom” option to manually adjust the timezone as a workaround (correct Lat/Lon values will be already populated if you select the theater first and then change to custom).
-
Weird I really didn’t have to change much at all. I just had it download weather data (the 1800 run with intervals of 3 hours) then in the “Save Weather” section choose save sequence, start at Day 1 0500 and choose the “Sync to real time” option. If I’m using a date after 3/12 I get a warning triangle next to the sync option that says it cannot sync to real time. And looking at the slider on the right, it had 2100 GMT sync’d with 0500 local, rather that 2000 GMT (which is correct for GMT+9). I’ll try and get a screenshot tonight

Hey Ahmed, how difficult would it be to include an export of the image for each weather file when it is generating the weather files?
-
Already done on internal build as part of the ‘weather briefing’ export, but i haven’t had time lately to finish and publish it. I’ll eventually manage to allocate some time. Stay tuned.
-
Awesom, looking forward to it.

Hi Ahmed and thanks for your work,
After a little pain I understood how it works and it is great.
We’ll probably use it to have a dinamic weather on our actual online campaign.AMVI is pleased to mirror the download of your work; here the link http://www.amvi.it/download266-f4wx–real-weather-converter.html.html
Thanks again

Hi Ahmed,
Would it possible to change the base image of the theater with one selected by the user?
On our campaign we have added to the default theater map some painted areas, corredors, holding areas for tankers and patrol areas.
It would be nice to have the visual identification of the weather on those specified areas.
I know that the fmap files are based on a square larges areas and that we cand more or less identify our zones but……it would be an improvement. What do you think about it?
Kind regards and thanks again for your exellent work.

It was indeed already possible in the latest internal build, among with some other small improvements, but I haven’t touched the code in months…
I can’t promise anything as I am quite busy the next couple of weeks, but I’ll try to take a look at the code to make sure I didn’t leave anything half-done and I’ll upload that version.
