Adding custom sounds
-
Hi all, i have a question about how to add custom sounds. I want to add some sounds to airplanes other than f16. For example betty test in f18 sounds like f16. The objetive would be to replace that sound with another new sound.
I have seen this file /data/sounds/sounds/f4sndtbl, which allow you to add new sounds and configure some options about it. However i can’t find the file witch associate a sound with a function or plane.
does this file exist? or is inside source code and we can’t modify it.
thanks to all!

The F4SndTbl file relates to the sounds already in bms. You can adjust sound parameters in there but you cant add NEW sound files in there from what I know. You can though, find the corresponding sound and just edit and change the .ogg sound file and as long as it’s in the the f4sndtbl it will play that .ogg. If you don’t want to touch the original sounds, you can add your own and just change the f4sndtbl entry for that sound to point to your new sound file is the other way of doing it.
I changed the sounds to the F16/Harrier/ and the Hornet by changing the .ogg sound file then tailoring it in the F4sndtbl. If you open up F4sndtbl in notepad it tells you at the top which segments effect the sound and in what way.
Strongly suggest you back up the original first. Also bear in mind some campaigns use their own f4sndtbl and sounds and not everything is from the stock Korea /data/sounds folder.
Hope my waffeling helped in some way ….

thanks for your answer unleashedcode, a possible solution would be to have two or three F4sndtbl file, each one with links to sounds used by a kind of airplane. For example one for f16, other for f18 and other one for the harrier. When you want to fly a specific model, you only have to copy the correct file. On this way you can change easily custom sounds for each aircraft.
