4.33u3 CTD on start
-
Turning down the detail level helped a bit, it seems. At least I was able to complete 1 campaign mission (yay!), knocking out the targeting radars of 3 SA-2 sites near the FLOT and bagging 3 J-5s as well. Awesome. As Osan was only getting HAVCAP missions, I switched to a Korean squadron but then ended up getting 3 CTDs in a row so we’re not really out of the woods yet. They all happened much later in the game, over the FLOT or the last one while I was limping home after getting hit by AAA. All with the same error but running Process Hacker on the background I could see that I always still had at least 400 MB RAM available. 400 MB isn’t much but it wasn’t running out of RAM completely though.
-
Another evening of trying to complete a single campaign mission but it’s not working. 5 times CTD in a row, same error - CRT memory depletion. However, the crash logs show that at least 1 GB of RAM will still available, no idea why it keeps giving errors like that.
I now also got a different error, I guess that’s progress of sorts

not sure if this will help but try increasing your user address space as that’s still showing low only 223mb free

Mate, would you mind giving me some directions as to where I would do that?
UPDATE: I assume you mean switching on the 4GT by adding the /3GB switch to the boot.ini? I’ve done that just now, rebooted and will take her for a spin now.
-
When I have the /3GB switch added to XP, somehow BMS runs like a dog, or rather it doesn’t at all. It’s all fine in the 2D menus but once I never the 3D world in the campaign, BMS just freezes. When I jump into the cockpit, it seems fine at first. I can change my MFDs, flip cockpit switches etc. But as soon as I, for example, go into an external view and look around my aircraft, the screen freezes although the sound still continues in the background. The same when I stay in pit and attempt to taxi forward or take off (when jumping straight to the runway), the screen starts moving but then BMS just appears to “lock up” - although it’s only the display part that hangs.
As soon as I boot XP without the /3GB switch, BMS runs as per usual. E.g. absolutely fine and playable until it crashes?

ok i’m a dope or I was drunk when I posted last take your pick
3584 MB physical memory
1211 MB physical memory free
5463 MB paging file
3398 MB paging file free
2048 MB user address space
223 MB user address space freeThe 2GB user address is the amount of memory that is addressed to BMS which is not enough as you can imagine…
When I have the /3GB switch added to XP, somehow BMS runs like a dog,
This is properly due to BMS not being compiled with large address support and to be honest I cant remember if I saw that it was but from what you say it runs like a dog we properly didnt…
I have heard there are some 4GB enabler tools that can set a flag in the exe’s PE header that may help here but I have no experience with this so cant help
time to upgrade to 64bit bud

Well given how the Lions are doing down here, I won’t hold it against you…… Mwuahaha :drink:
(Go All Blacks!! )I think I forgot to add the user address space switch to crank up the available base memory. It’s becoming a principle matter now, as the BMS 4.33.1 system specs did state it would run with XP!
time to upgrade to 64bit bud
I’m running Windows 7 x64! The issue is that I haven’t had the time yet to upgrade these suckers:

Bahhh

The Lions did make a fantastic second try in that first AB test match. The entire pub was cheering for them, which I just love about kiwi’s. They cheer for good proper rugby, even when it’s the opposite team.
I’ve looked into those DB15->USB converters but they do not seem to work very well at all for complex HOTAS like the FLCS/TQS. It will turn it into a dumb 4 button, 3 axis joystick. Even when using an original FLCS and TQS (with the buttons mapped to keyboard commands through the DIN adapter), you still lose the functionality of the range and elevation knobs on the throttle. And then you’re left with trying to hook a DIN-keyboard plug into an USB port….
To make matter worse, my FLCS and TQS use the SWF22 chipset which makes a converter like that completely useless as I would need the SWF22 drivers to decode the button press signals that are coming through the DB15 port. (The DIN keyboard output is no longer used).
But I have gotten me one of these for a full Hempstick conversion:
I just haven’t had the time to sit down and take my FLCS and TQS apart and get this all done.

Well done on that Lions win Ninja, that was a great game and a shameful shoulder charge from our side.
I’ve done some testing and BMS 4.32.7 works fine under XP in campaign without dropping its pants at random. So I’ll stick with that until I can get this stick conversion done.

64% of my message was very much on-topic, 36% was related to other matters. That still makes it a valid post with no significant statistical deviation from topic.
While on the topic of being on topic, is there any particular key feature that causes BMS 4.33.1 to consume so much more memory during the campaign than BMS 4.32.7?
It’s clear that BMS 4.33.1 seems to run out of memory or at least virtual address space during campaign missions, causing BMS 4.33.1 to CTD regularly on XP.I’ve installed BMS 4.32.7 next to it and was able to fly a string of campaign missions without any CTDs. Now I understand that BMS 4.33.1 is a far more advanced, with a much better flight model, wing flutter, etc. But I doubt if that is causing it to run out of memory space in campaign missions? I wonder if it is something to do with the AI?
Also doing a target recon in the mission planning screen also takes a long, long time in BMS 4.33.1 before it actually comes up with the recon screen. This is much quicker in BMS 4.32.7 as well. Not sure if that’s at all related to the issue but it’s interesting to see how different these two versions behave.

As long as it’s statistically sound!
