AI Wingmen Tactical Commands
-
Hey there,
I’ve been flying bms for a good year now, and I still have trouble figuring out what most of the wingman commands do in relation to the battle.
(ie)>Flying a 2 ship strike mission
Flying through stpt designated in the flight plan as “push”, displayed in the HSD as a square
Sends 1-2 datalinked target
“Cowboy 1-2, Weapons free”
“Cowboy 1-2, Attack Collateral Ground Target, Bearing blah blah blah”
Then he/she replies: “Negative”Is there something I missed???

You ask him to kill a friendly.

If you’re on a strike type mission against an objective with an assigned sub-objective target, the wingman should attack it if free to fire without an explicit target order. Targets “as fragged” are free game and really should be allowed at less than “weapons free” which I swear was the case in some version of Falcon.
If you want to give an explicit attack order against a steer-collocated target it’s best to ensure that your steer is placed with precision. The default flight plan does not include precision steerpoints for targets. You probably got a negative because it was not a valid target in terms of being enemy-owned or the weapon is not compatible with that target. It’s possible the objective was captured before you arrived or you indicated something that shouldn’t be attacked to the wingman.
I’m slowly building up a knowledge base of the AI commands and leadership practices. If you can describe the situation in more detail I’m all ears.
