I see what you mean KidVicious. I am going to add a “tracking” camera mode in the coming releases which will be like the one in BMS.
Good man

This update brings numerous fixes, plus the following improvements:
The instructors are going to like the upgraded remote controls: You can now assign custom keyboard and joystick controls to remotely controls and assist the aircraft of your trainees flying in DCS World, FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane. Can it be an earlier version? I have 1.5.0
-
Not sure what you mean by that. Even if older versions of Falcon and the theaters are not supported, they should work without any major problem with Tacview 1.6.2.
You can freely update your Tacview 1.5.0 to the version 1.6.2. Did you encounter any issue related to the update?

Sorry, I was replying to Malc’s request for version 1.5.3.

With Tacview 1.6.3 beta 1, you can now display your own custom textures and orthophoto in Tacview!
http://tacview.net/download/beta/
For this example, you will need the Korea VFR map which can be found here: http://users.skynet.be/bs999158/F4download_navigation.htm
Save or copy the jpeg file as:
C:\ProgramData\Tacview\Data\Terrain\Textures\ONC_kneemap_korea_4096_print.jpg
Download the xml file: http://www.tacview.net/download/CustomTextureList.xml
And save or copy it as:
C:\ProgramData\Tacview\Data\Terrain\Textures\CustomTextureList.xml
Relaunch Tacview, make sure BMS terrain is automatically or manually displayed and you should see the Korean low-level VFR map!
Feel free to edit CustomTextureList.xml to add more BMS maps in Tacview based on the theaters coordinates which can be found in:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Tacview (beta)\Data\Xml\Data-Falcon4Theaters.xml
Best enjoyed with the excellent KTO AIP by Windblow: http://www.tacview.net/download/addons/
Special thanks to Olivier Beaumont for his great VFR maps!
Enjoy!

Nice application of the map, i’ll definitely try that.
-
Very cool.
-
should tacview run slower than bms… when i play back file its really laggy even with terrain set to flat
-
If the time in Tacview moving slower than in real-life / BMS: You can playback the flight slower and faster by clicking on the buttons next to the “Play” arrow button in the bottom toolbar.
If Tacview is jerky: make sure the objects trails are not too long. Their length is defined by the slider in the bottom right corner of the screen. Note: In Tacview, 3D performances are the same regardless of the terrain display options selected.
You may also want to make sure that your graphic drivers are up to date. Tacview is using OpenGL and outdated drivers may not be as smooth as the latest ones especially with Intel GPUs.
-
yeah i got an intel graphics family video card in laptop…note expecting miricles but bms gets about 23-25 fps so i thought that tacview would run smoother. computer says all drivers up to date… could it be the threat bubbles giving the hit cause i looked for a way to torn them off (as much as i love to see them) but couldn’t find it
appreciate the response… at first it would crash but someone -possibly you- told me a while back to add VBOOFF to shortcut path and now it at least runs…might be lost cause -
Indeed, the old /VBO:off switch can be handy to avoid crashes with some graphic drivers. However, the 3D performance will be reduced a lot (maybe two to four times slower to render the 3D scene depending on your hardware). So, it is always best to try Tacview without this flag before using it.
While it is true that Tacview does not display fancy 3D effects, the terrain high resolution and the objects trails need way more triangles (millions) than the old Falcon 4 terrain engine to be rendered. This is probably why Tacview needs a more powerful GPU than BMS to run smoothly.
I do not think that the treat bubbles are very heavy for the GPU. They mainly impact the fill rate of your 3D card (in a negligible way compared to modern video games). You can still disable them to see if this helps by clicking on the little AAA button in the bottom toolbar.
Tacview 2.0 will use a much more modern 3D renderer, which should be smoother even on older computers despite more details on the screen. But this is another story, I still have a lot to do before getting a working alpha…

i appreciate the feedback but it sounds like if its lagging with everything off then i might be outta luck at the moment. i tried without the vbo trick but it kept crashing after file loaded… i look forward to future releases…your program is awesome. for now i think im stuck using the acmi with bms… thanks for your time though vyrtuoz
