Any Tutorial how to load a .grb file directly from zgrib or any other online source?
I can´t load the file, nothing happens. What i´m doing wrong?
-
Think you’re doing nothing wrong… there may be a bug when loading offline file. I’ve tried also but no success.
Well, no big deal to me, just download next forecast and enjoy

The anwer is on the Q&A section of the first post
Q: Can I load GRIB version 1 files or can use old zyGrib files that I used on Grb2Fmap? A: As of this version GRIB 1 files downloaded from zyGrib don't work on F4Wx. Use GRIB 2 downloaded from within the application or saved from NOAA NOMADS server
So, the only local files that you can load at the moment are GRIB2 downloaded from the NOMADS server (or other source containing the same data/format)
On another note, still thinking on releasing an update, but to be honest there are not many new things in such an update other than fixing a small bug with the timezone sync option, being able to save the preview images, and adding the newly released theaters into the presets list, so I have been working on other projects instead of F4Wx lately. In any case, I’ll release a new update addressing the above issues “soon”

Thanks Ahmed sorry the misinformation

Hmmm… Ahmed, now when you are thinking to return some attention to f4wx , …
Please, can you make previewing of falcon export weather files?
I mean load entire ‘WeatherMaps’ subdir and preview images 1 by 1 in a timeline… is it possible?
I don’t mean edit weather , that can do with Falcas’s editor , just preview.
That would be awesome

I haven’t looked at the code in a while but I would dare to say that it should be fairly easy to implement that into the existing code. I’ll take a look at this project again after U4 is out, just in case it includes any modifications to the weather format.

Does anyone have a collection of saved grib data that work with this version? Sometimes I want to create a spring/summer version of Korea to save me from the current winter conditions outside. If I were thinking I’d be saving seasons as we go along, but I haven’t been…

Incoming update, last call for theater devs to pm me in case their theater is not already in the F4Wx theater list and want it included!
-
Looking forward to the next update.
I have enjoyed working with this program and my virtual unit really like the more realistic weather settings available with this… Keep walking Ahmed

Instead of asking each time… or waiting - asking for an update… can’t you code it in a way that someone can import a new theater from a menu selection?
Just saying…
-
No, there is already a custom theater option for people to use at their own risk.
Having such an option would only increase the amount of bogus bug reports in my inbox
The whole idea of F4Wx (vs Grb2Fmap) was to only need a couple of clicks to get the proper weather into BMS, with the tool taking care of the rest.
The new version already checks for preset updates online and automatically downloads new presets on user command.
-
Well if I got it right you just need to get the installed theaters list from the theater definitions file and the map file.
Do you need anything else? the theater 0,0 coordinates and size or XY top bottom min max, to use it as reference to point out to which area to get the data for.
If those are provided to u it should be rather easy.
For starters u could kindly ask theater dev’s to create a file based on your defined structure with all the info for it, and maintain it for the future.
Even better it could go in the Falcon database in the future for easier access for it. Also the
I don’t think that this will create any bogus bug reports from users.
So if a new theater pops up or an update is released and includes the data u want it would auto show in your list of theaters. So when is the release???
-
I thought in the past about taking the theater data from the BMS install itself but I ruled it out for various reasons, the main one being that some theaters may feature different coordinates in BMS than in real life (IIRC POH has been transposed 10+ degrees east due to problems implementing E/W coordinates for example)… but also because the current way allows for better controlled testing (the last release was still BETA). Maybe in a future update I can revisit this decision, but for now it will have to stay as it is. (EDIT: also timezone data is not available in BMS theater files AFAIK, and automatically matching timezones is one of the main features of F4Wx, so it needs its own database anyway)
Regarding the release date, and following the long lasting tradition, I’ll say 3-4 weeks . I’m going on a small trip the next week so I wont be able to put the finishing touches until I come back. But it should happen soon. In any case don’t expect any drastic changes to the existing version, just a few features such as saving the preview images. Most of the new work is behind the scenes.

New Version (Build 40) Released!
* Added confirmation question when loading data from different geographical areas than the selected theater * Changed style of error/info messages * QNH/Wind/Etc text updates during animation play if mouse on preview area * Preview image can now be saved (right click over preview area) * Custom image can now be loaded as preview background for custom theater preset (right click over preview area) * Recoded worker/UI thread synchronization * Upgraded from ECMWF GRIB API library to customized ECMWF ecCodes 2.5.0 library * Changed GFS download list contents to a more user-friendly format * Fractional timezones now possible (for theaters in half-hour timezones). Range increased to -12h to +14h * Added option to batch-save all preview options when generating a FMAP sequence. For now: - The preview images are saved in the 'preview' subdirectory of the folder chosen to save the FMAPs - The images are fixed size of 350x350 (same than in the program) - The fields currently selected in the UI (temperature, winds...) are drawn in the preview images * Added auto-updater. Notifies about new program versions and can also download data updates (theater presets/GRIB definitions) on user approval * Memory usage greately reduced (internal fmaps are now generated 'on demand') * Added crash handler to generate minidump file for crash reports
As stated in previous posts, towards the end-user the only visible changes are the possibility of saving previews and loading custom backgrounds (this for the “custom” preset only). However I fixed and tweaked several other things here and there that some may notice.
Data and program updates will be delivered through the included auto-updater (every update requires explicit user approval).
There is a lot of code changes in the background, and this time the limited internal testing was only carried out by me, so I may have left some bug behind. In case of any crash please include instructions to reproduce and the minidump file generated by the program on crash.
From now on Build 39 is considered deprecated/unsupported, so please report bugs only when using the current version (Build 40).
Download links on first post as usual.
Enjoy!
