U5 fails to launch on win7 64 bit all of a sudden
-
Hi folks,
after having done a few flights on U5 already and without updating / changing anything on my system, BMS now refuses to launch on my system with the attached error message. Any idea what could be wrong?
All the best & TIA,
Uwe
EDIT: the 32bit-Version still works.
-
I just checked the first (german) error message again, and the title bar reads “unsupported 16-bit application”… it’s not IVC, that’s running fine. I’m stumped!
-
Just ran
sfc.exe /SCANNOW
in an administrative shell, no errors found.
Ironically enough, U5 still runs fine on Linux using the wine-staging branch.
-
ClamScan of all windows drives came up empty. I also updated the nv drivers to 391 WHQL, but I’m still getting the same error.
pre-update:
post-update (including a reboot):
I selected a “fresh install” (like I usually do when updating the nv drivers).
I’d be most grateful for any ideas on how to fix this issue.
All the best, Uwe

Could be an infected/corrupted bms exe. Clamav has one of the poorest detection rates, you should use something a little better.

I’m pretty sure I’m not infected by anything, I do 90% of my browsing on Linux and don’t visit any dodgy websites.
My bms bin/x64 folder looks like this atm:

I managed to solve the issue by re-downloading a fresh “Falcon BMS.exe” (U5) from our dedicated server which looks like this:
$ md5sum.exe Falcon\ BMS.exe
dd6f567c4c8f98a224bc8fca404f4486 *Falcon BMS.exeI have no idea why or how the BMS.exe on my gaming rig could have become corrupted, might be a dodgy SSD (but I doubt that as the virus scan had no troubles reading every occupied bit on the drive).
Well, I’ll look at the bright side: Updating to NV WHQL 391.xx didn’t cause any extra breakage
All the best, Uwe

I am having the exact same problem, where can I get a FalconBms.exe to try?
-
I don’t know if it’s permitted to distribute the binary outside of the installation package…. you could also try uninstalling U5 and then re-installing the update which should restore the binary.
All the best, Uwe

Will try that, but I am afraid to break it further. At least it runs well in 32 bit…
-
I read recently of someone else having same issue after a win 10 update and it turned out to be the NVidia drivers. I think rolling back to a previous version fixed it. Try it and see…YMMV

Given the fact that U5 is a code only update you should be able to copy your working 32 bit u5 binary out of the way to a backup location, un-install u5, (reboot for good measure) and then re-install update 5 so see if you get a changed binary for the 64bit version.
All the best, Uwe
