Lod Editor F-14B Cockpit
-
3ddbbuilder UI crashes the moment I click extract. any ideas as to why?
I Figured it out. Forgot to add LOD Editor into the same folder as it. whoops. working good now.
-
Nope, but it’s not like there is a need for UI… just use the exe directly, with or without cmd file(s), and make sure you didn’t forget FreeImage.dll

I tried starrat’s method and all I ended up with was a pit with opaque canopy glass and messed up textures in the pit. Not convinced it works.

I will re do a video of this process. It works fine when I do it.
I wouldn’t want to post something just to not work , or confuse folks.
Sounds like some texture numbers got out of whack, or are missing. It really did work , I just need to explain process a bit better step by step.
Coming soon.Cheers

Could it be f14.dat causing the issue?
-
The f14.dat file in sim folder was not needed when I did It.
There are at least three f14s some theaters have more.
I check cockpit art folder and corresponding Ct number label 649 is first , I think, and in that cockpit file is a few lines calling for parent numbers for model lods. These lods have the texture info , if you check in lod edit.
And if those texture numbers are already in your objects/folder, than some renumbering may be needed.
I will repost this in vid, Thursday, but just want to note that sim folder ac.dat was not a factor in swapping out pit and pit-view models.
Maybe , if it isn’t working with textures, my upload is bad. I need to check that too, but I grabbed it right off my desktop while doing the swap. But bad stuff happens sometimes , we will see.

This is a video of it working fine. Warning! it is very long and boring, but its working.

I followed the instructions Starrats provided in the pictures (included with his bundle of files).
The cockpit works perfectly for the F-14B but I get no F-14A external wing model when in the pit.well… there’s also the fact that I’m attempting to put it into ITO80s But I bet it’s the same

Kind of a ham-fisted solution, but rather than do the entire process over I just copied the contents of the 649 folder (F-14B) to the 1957 and 1893 folders.
Now I see wings! Maybe they are the wrong wings… but they look fine to me.Thanks Starrats! I have an entire collection of Starrats videos now, they have been extremely useful. He’s really the most helpful guy around.

I think just if you check what parent number cockpit art calls for, in lod edit , to make sure the right ones are there. This sounds like the cockpit files were calling for wrong parent numbers. Or parent numbers were wrong for ito80s
But I’m glad you got it going!
I WILL LOOK AT ITO80S WHEN I GET A CHANCE

One annoying thing I’d like to fix… The texture on the canopy is a bit glitched. Think I could fix this by just replacing this texture with a clear alpha texture, but I can’t locate the dang thing. Using LOD editor, tried to figure out which texture this was. Best guess was 8005 and 9012, but those didn’t have any effect…

Installed to regular KTO, don’t have this problem.
Only get the canopy bug when installing to ITO. Hmmm…edit
Found the offending texture: 8513
8513 does not exist in stock KTO
I just edited the canopy reflection texture out of the file, the gauges remain. Doesn’t appear to be used by other aircraft so I’m happy with that fix.Just wish this pit had instrument lights at night

Pardon the necromancy, but I just recently had the free time to try out this procedure. Pretty Cool!!
Just wish this pit had instrument lights at night
I had luck just pressing <shift>+ <alt>+ c to toggle the interior flood lights from Off -> Low -> High
If you want the older integral red lighting you can drop this line into your 3dckpit.dat
floodlightcolormod 1.0 0.2 0.2;iirc they went to an add-on green flood lighting when the pilots started using NVGs</alt></shift>
