Krause's BMS 4.32 Tutorials
-
I would appreciate if someone do missions tutorials, showing me what to do from start to finish (setting things, how to approach the mission, what to do when things went wrong, etc) it’s better to have varied missions too…
A lot depends on the type of mission, as well as what specifically “goes wrong”. Both the HARM and Data Cartridge tutorials cover a lot as far as mission planning goes, and there is no cookie cutter approach to a dynamic environment. Your best bet is to fly online with others and learn that way.
If you do fly single player, the way to learn is by analyzing both your successes and failures. Do you know how or why you were shot down, and how to prevent that in the future? What went well, and what can you do better? Stuff like this is better with online feedback, but you may just need to do this yourself. If you have specific questions (i.e. “How do I find an alternate airfield when I hit bingo and can’t make it back?”, then you can ask those on the forum to get peoples’ techniques.

Great job on the videos. I’d love to see one on how to setup and perform a Pop-up Attack.

The biggest thing during a package comprised of multiple flights is to “remain on carrot” - i.e. fly as fragged, otherwise the other flights wont be supporting you properly. I will cover this in my navigation tutorial.
so… current things on the menu:
1. I want to re-do the HARM tutorial, I mixed up some POS WPN modes
2. I want to re-do the landing part of the ILS video, I forgot to mention the bracket hud symbology which is a major factor
3. I want to make a pop-up attack video
4. I want to make a navigation videoI have been insanely busy with grad school, once I have some free time i’ll do it.

Something to hold you over until then:

Krause, thanks again for your tutorials (and for guidance you’ve given me during the UOAF events). I dragged a couple of my grad-school buddies into BMS last weekend, and used your vids as a “here! watch this to get quickly up-to-speed!” solution, to good effect. I’m in grad school too (5th year Ph.D), and understand the TOTAL LACK OF FREE TIME ARGH! effect, but I would be really happy to see additional videos as time allows. The combination of all the manuals, Fighter Combat Tactics, and your videos is great for learning this sim.

These are absolutely FANTASTIC.
Because I hate having to go back to them after I watched them because i forgot something, I made some cheat sheets from the info he gave:
If you want them - you can get them here:

Hope they help someone.

Yep, always fun to watch good video tutos. Thanx a bunch !
Could be nice to have one that covers skin making, just the basics…
(Not the actual designing part, but how to edit/modify/save). -
Like the others that came before me, I must contribute my thanks to you for your efforts. Outstanding and incredibly useful for all.
If I was in your neighborhood, I would gladly offer you a round or two of your favorite alcoholic beverage!
Have a great day sir.

Hi Tyrspawn,
Add this to first post also:-
*** Also to download the YouTubes to your computer use this app here:
http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com/
Select FLV Video HQ 360
Then just copy and paste URL into where is says (Video URL) you get URL by clicking the little YouTube icon on the bottom to watch online.
So copy URL then select conversion type I prefer (AVI) select where to save, I always use desktop then create folders on a disc and my backup Hard Drive.
There’s also the HD version to download just by clicking share online then options copy HD link to (Video URL)
Then click Download button and watch the info bar on the bottom for speed of download and file size. Done easy!
By downloading them you can play tutorials on a laptop as you play game on your desktop for fast pace learning or simply watch over and over again for study purpose.
I had learn myself how to do all this!
Its easy, just helping my fellow wing men!
**Enjoy!

Original post updated with a “text guides” section - I added a guide on basic air combat tactics for the beginner with a slant for multiplayer play. It includes some video of actual gameplay.

Hi! Thanks for your video. Could I ask you a question?
1. Would you let me know how to center my sniper pod senser?
My targeting point stuck or don’t move up and down when I change raidar mode to GM and try to pick up a ground targe
I can see NOT SOI on right MFD. But even if I don’t see NOT SOI on my right MFD. I still can’t move my target point to the right or to the left.
If I can move it to the right or to the left, I can’t move it to close target. I am not sure what I did wrong to lock ground targets.
I thought my Cougar microsticks out of working but it’s working fine on air to air mode. -

The TGP will show you wherever the TD box is, so it can effectively be used for boresighting the TGP.
The other way to “Center” the TGP is to press tms down, which will snap it to whatever the FCR is referencing.

Krause, i come from freefalcon and I have to say i am loving BMS so far, mainly because of the realizm of it. Though there are some things i like about freefalcon like the JSOWS but either way i think im staying with BMS. Just got Trackir 5 pro and i have my saitek x52 coming in the mail tuesday. Couple of questions for you. I have watched all of you videos over and over again lol just because of how informative they are. For once i was able to land my jet with out crashing just from learning the ILS.
So question 1 for you is, By any chance do you or have you ever used the WDP for BMS. Reason i ask is because i think i am using it wrong for my campaign. Everytime i bring in my flight package, change things and then go back into game, It seems nothing got saved to my Data cartarge, as far as the mission goes. So i was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to use it correctly.I know im a complete noob.
2nd question i have is so far i am loving my track ir. Always played freefalcon with out it and man the differnce is amazing. I have it set fairly well, but i love how much more fluid yours is. Would it be possible to get your profile that you use. That way i can see the changes.
I found your profile for TrackIR

one question , why is that when i switch to AA mode and chose AMRAM the FCR switched off ?Sounds like you are talking about dogfight mode. When you switch into dogfight mode the radar turns off (designed that way so you can ambush people with it) - you need to press TMS up to turn it back on, you can also click “OVRD” on your FCR and it should turn it back on.

Target steers, steer point lines and threat steers are DO NOT remain persistent on the data cartridge. I don’t know if this is a bug or what, but it’s how it is right now. If you close your game, you’ll lose that stuff.
