Tacview – Understand what happened during your last flight! (alternative ACMI viewer)
-
I’ve done my best to integrate Falcon 4.0 terrain into Tacview. While doing that, I’ve noticed some bugs in Falcon: Like ground units moving under or floating over the terrain (visible in Falcon ACMI viewer). Probably because of the way F4 manages its terrain level of detail.
Can you share me your VHS file and tell me which theater of operation you were flying in and what objects I should look at to reproduce the bug?
Hi!
I’ve bought the Pro version. Quite impressive features!BUT: Opening BMS .vhs files and selecting FalconBNS terrain, Coordinates are not the same as inside the sim.
I understand the issue about spherical projection into flat terrain, but for a Pro version I expected resolution of this matter.
Is it so hard to implement the same algorithm that BMS uses for “translating” X,Y into some kind of N/E “virtual” coordinates? -

Hi Virtuoz!
Thank you for your reply and your effort. The theater is “Korea”, and inside TacView the “Falcon BMS” Terrain is selected.
You can find the test .tac mission file I’ve flown, as well as the produced .vhs ACMI file in a .zip file HERE.
I sum up the resulting differences in the coordinates here:
BMS Steerpoint coordinates TacView Coordinates above STP (initiation of bank to the next STP) 1/6) N 35°58.060' N 35°55.07640' E 127°25.311' E 126°36.18907' 2) N 36°21.769' N 36°18.55547' E 127°23.975' E 126°34.05652' 3) N 36°32.007' N 36°28.85469' E 127°44.005' E 126°49.52944' 4) N 36°41.706' N 36°38.72389' E 127°19.736' E 126°29.73045' 5) N 36°41.706' N 36°38.73412' E 127°04.951' E 126°17.77398'

When trying to export “Flight Log” I get an “Unknown Error” (Tacview1.1) on both my main PC and laptop, very frustrating, any ideas?
-
You are right Killer!
I’ve found the bug: I forgot to properly manage one event which is specific to Falcon 4.
This is fixed in Tacview 1.1.1 which is going to be released in November. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I should have stated that the file I was trying to export was a complete Acmi from a campaign flight. I wondered if it failed because of the size of the file. Glad you found the problem

Can you share me your VHS file so I can test it? I like to test huge flight recordings so I can check if everything is properly supported and also what I should optimize in Tacview.

After 21 days, the advanced features will be disabled.
However you will still be able to use the rest of Tacview as usual for free.

Hi Vyrtuoz!
Any news on a Pro version update?
Christmas time soon, you know…Cheers!

I was struggling with DCS 1.1.1 last month.
Now I’m returning to the main work: In Tacview 1.2, the home and pro edition will offer the advanced telemetry. This means that you will be able to see radar locks, IAS, gear, flaps and all other telemetry data available in your favorite flight simulator.
The release is planned for early 2012.

Any way to convert tacview files back to vhs to see them via falcon’s ACMI?
-
Sorry, actually there is no way to convert back Tacview files into VHS files.
To do this, I would have to write an exporter which fully complies with Falcon 4 format (which is not as easy as it seems). For now, I prefer to concentrate my energy on new tools and general improvements.

Hi do you guys know if there is going to be a better 3D graphical version with a printable report, I have chosen to wait until they release something more modern and learn how to use it, that’s all.
I have seen the current one in action but hoping for some improvements.
Might have to wait longer, point is anybody know if they are making something better let me know PM if needed.
Thanks

Tacview is VERY close (better) to the RL ACMI tool used at (Maple Flag and Red Flag)
MUCH better (MUCH more powerful) than BMS’s ACMI player!

I would even say that TACVIEW could be used IRL, and (maybe) will be one day used with GPS tracker! … I’m gonna to try it on a tactical mission with TAT and fighters… and I’m gonna to introduce it to the A400M MEST (Multinational Entry In Service Team)
But don’t have the full version at this time … will show them the public one.

Take a look to professional tools …. not as good as TACVIEW!

Another one.

Don’t tell me that TACVIEW doesn’t look more modern!!!

looks but ain’t effective. I can create hundreds of modern apps… but if their outcome is zero? modernism doesn’t help u to learn from mistakes or what your opponent does better than u. Sorry to repeat my self but Tacview is just fancy. In such a multi 3d environment and with such objectives what u want is the whole picture and locate - spot the key difference that made the win or loose factor. TacView can’t do that. It has a zoom out limitation that to have the whole picture u have to run the same flight 3 - 4 times and complete the puzzle in your head… If I have to do it in my head no need for modernism.
Have a flight of 3 packages against 2 Cap and naval units and AA u just can’t follow what factor judged the outcome.
If u want to focus to just one flight yeap it’s great… but in a war the environment is way more complicated not to mention the mess in the list… lol u need more than half an hour to locate something interesting.
Unfortunately I don’t have an ACMI and it’s tacview file to create a video for comparison. Today we will fly a mission I hope ACMI rec will not fail as my last time and make the comparison vid. What I have are some tacview files where in the merge u see ships appear and disappear…LOL like they are ghost when they just maneuver. U can’t have at the same time the attackers package and the Caps whole maneuvers… Hell and it’s payware in full version???Maybe the payware version doesn’t have this limitation. I don’t have it I judge from the freeware version. I don’t want to misjudge all the way the payware version.

Did you tried the free view option ?
EDIT: I do not understand you!? … zoom out is quite huge! (?)

Me too. Professional version provides such an optinos where you can find the key factors. And the development of TV has not been finished.

Yes but watch as u zoom out labels and planes go off… so u loose the info.
