Videocard fried?
-
Installed 4.34 no problem, and flew a few instant actions to check all OK.
No changes to PC over last 8 yrs of happy Falcon flying.
Then thought I’d work through a ramp start, clicked on Idle Cut-off in the cockpit and the screen cut back to a randomly pixellated home screen and froze solid. Ctrl Alt Del didn 't have any effect, and had to try a restart.
A box sayong something about non optimal screen resolution floated across screen but otherwise couldn’t get anything on screen. Changed from my Samsung monitor to an old office screen, and could get things started in Safe Mode, but with streaks all over the screen. Reinstalled GT580 drivers to no effect. Can’t get a normal Windows start, or a non-streaked screen.
is this the end of my card?

If the lines (streaks all over the screen) appeared at POST screen (first black screen that report the system data e.g. CPU frequency, RAM size and speed, HDD’s and ODD’s) then probably the video card is damaged and counts to finals…
Since you didn’t have them before (some video cards do this due to their BIOS, to show lines at POST, but ONLY there!), it is a bad sign.

8 year old PC? maybe time for an upgrade?

At never less than 60fps with multisampling at 6, I’ve never been forced to consider a new rig.
I’ll try a used GTX580 from ebay to see if that’s the problem. If no joy, then it’s a new puter.
