F4Wx – Real Weather Converter
-
Hi Ahmed,
Been busy updating my own weather tool to support 434 version.
Now when using F4Wx generated files, I noticed that cloud density always seem to go from FEW to BKN. Skipping the SCT.
Question is whether this is just not implemented yet or that I just did not find any situation yet?
It would provide an even smoother transition.Cheers Obi1

SCT is possible, I posted a screenshot a few pages ago that contained SCT TCUs. BMS desntiy and size values are populated depending on the real world values as close as possible. In any case, I think that the BMS weather engine takes care of smoothing any abrupt transitions that may occur.
-
Yes, I see now in your Panama pic indeed. Then all is okay, just expected to find it more often between FEW and BKN areas.
But if it’s close to real world values then that’s what it is, no need to change it.Cheers Obi1

Please know that those are 2 separate things. BMS runs on Win7 minimum yes, but Weather download program itself could also be used on another system than BMS system.
The weather files of BMS itself are not OS dependent.
So yes my system and of some others are lacking behind and yes support is not granted anymore. But please stop pushing people to newer systems and OSes just because it sounds cool.
Ahmed did me a hugh favour to get it working on older OS again like it did before and yes I know this is a bonus because he mentioned in readme file that you need at least Win7.
There can be many reasons for people to still work on older OS even if they know time has come;-)
If Ahmed would not have helped I would be standing in the cold although ofcourse I would have understand why. Thanks Ahmed, I really appreciate your support.
P.S. This concerned the 2 post before Ahmed’s one about upgrading.
Cheers Obi1
i can only guess… No, don’t get me wrong, I have no any problem You using Vista, neither ‘pushing’ you… heck, you can return to DOS if you’d like (heck, I’m still using DOS for some sh**)
It was only suggestion, since Win7 is generally compatible with Vista and is still better in respect to newer software compatibility then Vista (but NOT some older software),
… and also Win7 will work on any hardware capable of running Vista…only Cougar software wont work fully since it was designed for Vista, yeah those DX8 Cougar axis tester… but it not crucial for stick programming and other stuffCheers

@Ahmed ,
What do you say if you can make your software , read multiple .fmap files (not editing just read) … in sequence … and make possible renaming day/time in already defined sequence ? (also make preview from already .fmap on disk)
To be clear, my problem is when I make my sequence , and later I want to ‘move’ day/time to a later , I need to multiple rename files … which is kind of PITA , even with TotalCommander - multiple files rename and even using regExp serach and replace. Since naming scheme is all numbers and repeatable through many files, even those you dont want to be renamed in wanted fashion.
If F4Wx could read sequence of .fmap files and move timing to another day/time , also make previews from .fmap(s). ??
Is it possible you would have any wish to do it ?
(AND, why don’t you just leave .grib files on disk , rather then delete them on the end of the conversion, then I could re-do/tweak my sequence as wanted, so above wouldn’t be even necessary)
THANKS

I had the idea of loading fmaps from disk before but I ditched it as it has some shortcomings. F4Wx works internally with grib structures, not with fmaps, and the fmaps don’t have all the data the program needs, thats one. And the second one is that loading fmap files would forcefully disable some of the options and possibilities (you can’t really use the fine-tuning options with data from the fmap, for example) and that would be a little bit weird .
As for saving the .grib files to disk, there is an undocumented feature actually for that: CTRL+SHIFT+S. You can load them at a later date from a local repository.

Exactly what I wanted.
I’ve figured that .grib(s) aren’t even never saved to disk , they are rather stored in memory space, and lost after conversion to .fmap(s) end of process, so any kind of undelete just won’t work anyway… I’ve tried
THANKS a bunch.:yo:
–p.s. errr, why didn’t you just made a button *save grib(s) , after download… maybe I’m first with that idea :uham: -

Do you get any other info with this error? This alone is not enough to trace the cause.
the whole field above is empty and no weather forecast is there that i can select
Hey Spit, looks like the connection to the NOAA server is not succeeding. Maybe you have a firewall blocking F4Wx?

Hello, Ahmed.
I have a perhaps silly question for you.I have now installed 4.33.1 U5 and 4.34 both installed on my system.
How could I learn on which of those two F4Wx is ‘pointed’ to? And could I be able to select or switch F4Wx among them? Thanks a lot in advance, and best compliments again for your useful utility.

Assuming you’re usong the latest 1.01, it only supports 4.34, so you can rest assured that it’s ‘pointing’ at 4.34, not 4.33. I’ve only used the program once, but you as the user tell it where to save the fmaps anyway. Unless, by “pointing to”, you’re referring to the time sync options between F4Wx and BMS 4.34?
-
Planehazza,
useful and clear answer this yours, thanks a lot.
Well, no, I was too much unclear perhaps… as I intended to, it was between 4.33.1 U5 and 4.34 root directories.
With best regards.

v1.0 and later are only compatible with BMS 4.34 due to the lots of weather engine improvements in the new BMS.
The last version that worked on 4.33 is v1.0b49 Beta, and that works on 4.33 ONLY. I don’t want to confuse anyone by posting download links to older versions here but, if anyone is interested in downloading the old 4.33 version, feel free to drop me a pm for download links.
There are no plans on making a switchable version compatible with both 4.33 and 4.34 as the present and near future of Falcon is BMS 4.34

Thanks a lot, Ahmed. It’s all crystal clear now.
With best regards.
