Thoughts about Two new 4.34 features could make old-style cat launch come true…
-Launch bar [Ctl-Shft-Alt-L]
-take off trim [ Ctl-Shft-Alt-T]For Bridle-cat launch, add Bridle cord part on ac, set as SDOF/very high angle rate, under a Switch 1(or 2/3). => when lower launch bar, the bridle cord will be extended immediately. once ac launched off deck, the bridle part will be shortened into fuselage immediately and switched off once gear switch off.
edit - SDOF is better for this case.of course a new switch code can do it in a much easier way, but this combination should serve for the time being.
As for Take off Trim, it may be applied to whole ac pitching-up using XDOF-taildragger, to help increase AOA for underpowered ac takeoff.
examples like Buccanner, Scimitar, RN phantom, and F-5 series.edit - rotate the whole body around CG will cause maingear sink into ground… it needs more work to relocate pivot at mainwheel-ground spot.

a test shot done in 2016. the launch bridle uses switch 60.
today’s test in 4.34
1. please ignore the odd-looking test ac, it’s Radium’s A-4.
the model is a high-poly, once touched in LE, all normals/shaders gone!!2. As my previous post, i add a bridle part as launch bar(XDOF/SDOF 98 )
each Bridle cord use a short cylinder under:
Switch 1+XDOF 98(zero angle limit)+SDOF 98(angle mulitplier 1000)3. since launch bar function needs AFM? or fm.dat edit, i use F/A-18C for test - just replace its LOD1 with this A-4 LOD1.
4. the first pic shows AI ac use Bridle properly - and they set Bridle retracted once on the cat.
the second pic shows AI ac right off the deck, the bridle SDOF shorten the bridle cord immediately.to sum up - the tweak is ok for Bridle-launch ac (before a dedicated bridle switch/code available).

Is there any chance to see A-6E and EA-6B from your LOD pack? They are available ages and the skinmaker of the FF gave permission to use his skin. This is why they are in Korea '80s MOD. They are available.

I’m getting a really ugly black mis-join on the canopy from certain angles (similar to the black “cracks” that appear on the FF Skyhawks) if I install the A-6A/E with or without the included or FF skin…

Sorry too many things to test… not now. I’m still digging cool new features in 4.34.
@Molni : you can use 3ddb builder to insert those lods.
Also BMS guys have my permission to use all lods freely…hope we could have hi-poly intruders someday. -

here i start with the easiest one : adding launch bar on A-6E.
for AI ac, it works perfectly as default F/A-18s.
for humany player… needs more code or AFM support.( not 100% functional ) -

As I can remember are IL-76/78 + A-50 in your LOD pack which are better than current stone age 3D models.
Is there any info what is under construction by the Team? Which is worth to integrate and make a good skin for it? As AI controlled planes a good skin can give enough boost for even older 3D models.

Back to launch bar XDOF98 …
I pick BMS E-2C for test - it already has a very nice launch bar part, so i think it’s an easy job but…
Once XDOF98 added, i cannot do normal re-calculation or shader reduction, the two LE functions just mess up all ac normals/shaders. [lock existing normals] is a no go.so… it better be done in original 3d format.

Just test the new 4.34 features on my low-poly ground vehicle: wheel/track animation.
Combine DOF 10 /Switch 11, and veh dat file, the ground vehicle movement looks vivid!
my impression:
1. LOD1 can use the two types of animation, lower lods probably don’t need them.
2. my low-poly tank test does not use DOF 10/wheel, just use Switch 11 for track front/back and wheel-track sides( moving parts).
it makes lod upgrade easier, lod file size smaller, but needs more texture space and better texture painting skill to create turning and bumping wheels on sides of model.IIRC this simplified tank wheel/track animation was first seen in Microprose Gunship!, a leaked unfinished project - i was impressed by its gfx and have checked its tank skins to realize how it work.

Another hi-poly test - Q-5N cockpitwing test.
The Q-5N is a very hi quality model(by Hayab?), the canopy and windshield frames look great, plus reasonable pit interior. so i eager to check if i sitting inside the pit.the pics show…
1. great immersion and view perspective, detailed canopy open/close.
2. HUD or reflection aiming plate set too low. nice aiming reticle texture.
3. totally unable to see mainwing! poor backward view by design.

Btw. the pit is more a MiG-19PM pit, which should be similar to an old Q-5A pit.
For the more modern Q-5N pit it was impossible to get reference pics.

another launch bridle test…
in this case, it uses few 4.34 features:- DOF98 launch bar as bridle, only work for AI ac. ( human OFM ac > CTD once hit lower launch bar keystroke)
- gear Z value to support taildragger ac.
- tailflat trim > later i decide to use DOF19 instead. DOF 0 causes odd tailflat movement in flight.
- new tailhook code > now it can catch wires.
it’s a pleasure to watch AI ac do bridle-launch one by one.
