TacEdit - Objectives import failed
-
Thanks for the files!
Still can’t import the objectives tho, which leads me to believe either I messed up somewhere earlier in the process or my PC is having a laugh (considering the fun I had with Dem2Terrain I wouldn’t be surprised at this point).
Will redo from the very begging, see where it goes later today.Huge thanks for the help, will update this post when I can make it works

Well, redid the entire theater process from Zero with a new terrain and data set following the Ultimate Theater Tutorial, and nothing changed.
No idea what is going on. Kinda depressing lol. -
I understand it sucks that you’re having some type of issue, but at least you have a working file that I sent you!!
I can only wonder if its your system, already had an issue with the .hdr file association, so I wouldn’t doubt W10 is bugging out for whatever reason!!??

Yeah, I’m investigating windows 10, to be fair the tools are for the most part old, so it is not out of the question they don’t play nice together.
Also working around the files you’ve send to try identify a pattern or a lead.
Thinking of getting a virtual machine setup with an older OS.What I am pretty sure at this point, is that TacView is the culprit somehow. It can import V1 objective csv (those it exports) but can’t import the V2 (those from Dem2Terrain) on my system.
So I’m also looking to see if I can find a way to transfer the information from V2 to V1.Unless there are other means to acquire the objective.csv that i am not aware of?
-
I’ve been using the old tools, TacEdit, LodEditor, F4Browse and all of the rest since 2002, most built by BaldEagle and have never had any issues with the tools, per se!
So I’m not sure why you are. Send me the object(ive) file that you are having a problem with and I will check it out!!

Honestly, all objective files being made by dem2terrain are giving me troubles, all the same “Import failed: Last Record was […]”.
Tell me, which version of TacEdit you using?
TacEdit seems to be the point where it splits between working on your side, and failing on my side. You were able to import the file, while I can’t.Here’s the new file for my 2nd attempt : http://www.mediafire.com/file/oe3qifjlrjvz3r4/EastC-obj.csv/file

Download the raw file and imported the objectives without issue!!

Alright, so same verison of TacEdit, with same file and not working. The only things that differs is the OS from what I see maybe?
The only thing I can think of is User Account Control being a smart ass. Will try to disable and see if it changes anything.
If it is not that… I don’t know anymore lol.Edit : UAC changes didn’t help.
-
Ok, now send me the tacedit file you are trying to work with, that may be the issue??

Got in that save0.cam/.tri and EastC.tac

Didn’t have any problem at all importing the objectives into either file!!!
Although in your .tac file, the Scenario and Saved Name in the Campaign tab should both say te_new
Sorry for the bad news!! :uham:

Alright, gonna try to setup a windows 7 virtual machine.
-
I give up lol.
Even in a Virtual Machine running Windows 7, after regenerating new objectives, from dem2terrain I still get that error. My last hope at this point is to find the Village Utils and hope I can go around the problem with it.
-
What is the Village Utils?? Never heard of it in all my years of deving!!
I will send you the files!!

Village Utils was a tool that could create the objective.csv from feature-tdf, but it was removed when dem2terrain came around and considered obsolete.
Thinking of making my own excel macro to create the v1 objective.csv that works for me(like the TacEdit exports) .
-
HURRAY!
Managed it.
Had to manually transform dem2terrain’s objective.csv to tacedit’s version of the file, but at least it loads now.
TacEdit doesn’t know what type they are, none are linked together, but hey, that’s progress. :uham:
Gonna have to automate this, thank god excel won’t be pricky about it lol. -
Really not sure what you’re trying to say.
Dem2terrain outputs the correct .csv to import to TacEdit, it’s always been that way. For some reason you believe it’s not that way???
Just like your problem with the World.hdr file, you’re having an issue with the file that is output for the objectives in the correct format for TacEdit yet you think something is wrong because you’re having issues??
You can ask anyone here on the boards about this, no one has had the issue you have been having. I mean really, I took you’re raw files and imported them just fine, the way it’s supposed to work and it worked, but you still think something is wrong with either your .csv file or TacEdit. Sorry, but you’re wrong….it’s something on your end!!!
Cheers

Don’t misunderstand me, my extensive search for a solution has shown me I am the only one having this issue since ever.
The problem I am having is that on my system, for a reason I can’t track down, the V2 objective.csv (output from dem2terrain) failed to import.
However the V1 objective.csv (output from TacEdit) import with no issue.Again, only on my system for nebulous reasons, but changing the dem2terrain’s generated objective file format into the one from TacEdit is the solution for me so far.
I won’t complain since I’ve been banging my head against the wall for a few days, and the day I format my hard drive and reinstall windows, maybe it will solve it and go without any issues, for the time being
I am stuck with this workaround of a solutionStill, huge thanks for helping me C9.
Edit : Never mind, tacedit won’t load databases correctly, dem2terrain stopped working again, so yeah, abandoning until the day I reinstall windows.
