Now that’s an inflight emergency . . . Damn!
As far as I remember, he ate something not really fresh… He was almost screaming in the oxygen mask… You know, better to have an operational dirty WSO than a useless one ! I’m sure, all air forces have this kind of example !

That is why the rule is:
Αlways have a light dinner the evening before flight.
Next morning make sure you make some time for a “last minute” visit to the “dump” - at least before briefing - and definitely before entering the flight gear room!
That way you reduce to minimum any chances for unpleasant surprises during flight…

I don’t remember I never really had a light dinner in the evening before going to flight, in fact.
Just to give you an image of how was at the time I was on duty :
6.30 : wake up
7.15 : breakfast
7.50 : arrival at fighter squadron
8.00 : morning briefing, weather forcast
9.00 : mission preparation, misc tasks, or flight prepared the day before
11.00 : lunch time (this one, it’s better to avoid something heavy, that’s right, but it’s never heavy at officer’s restaurant ! (always very tasty anyway).
12.30 back to the squadron : mission preparation, or flight prepared in the morning
17.00 End of the day, and beginning of night operations, if applicable
18.30 : dinner. I can tell you that you eat everything you can here, especially if like me you lived on airbase, because you will not eat anything before 7.15 ! And you will have all the night for digestion.Usually, I dumped for the most serious one in the morning, after wake up. For the small one, it was common to make it just before flight, or just before ramp-up, in the grass close to the aircraft (Yes, I often saw it, even I didn’t made it myself ! Thanks if your country have appropriate flight suits and anti-g garment ! Honestly, I’m not so needing person, so, I didn’t always made it, especially if your mission lasts only one hour. Sometimes, you are so “into the tunnel” that you don’t think of something else than your mission…
Cheers,
Radium

I know Radium since 2009, and I know that he flew for a special « black » project at the time. Now that this information went public he gave me his permission to reveal the name of the airplane he flew.
He flew the VF-25F Messiah in the military, the squadron’s name was « Galactical Fujins ».
