DEM data

Also this scattered info looks nice:

when u say it refuses to work what do you mean?
I mean that i try to load the files Joe has offered to the community and Dem2terrain does nothing… that is what i mean
-
well Joe’s links are dead… does anyone have them or anything? I must have downloaded in the past but don’t recall the name or file type to search it in my disks.
I really never used Dem2terrain and all i see is that it just asks for an HDR file which is the same for all 64seg theaters. so just place a copy of an hdr file somewhere open it with D2T and nothing happens.
From my perspective about the DCW data files they look ok.
And we don’t actually need e00 as I understand it Dem2terrain does that? Well as input it says to load the e00 files, but it asks for hdr. u just place the files at the same place with the elevation data and e00 files?
I don’t know this program is a total mystery.Anyway ArcGis 9.3 is not working but Arcgis 10.6.1 works just fine. What I understood is that the DCW files linked are already coverage files.
So in theory Dem2terrain reads all the areas data u set a rectangle and it cuts out (clips as we say nowadays) the wanted data and provides the files ready for Falcon. If someone knows anything else… please correct me.
So what are we missing actually here?
Edit: I also liked this:
[h=2]Step 2[/h]
- Create a new email to blueprint4[at]gmx.de
- Set subject to “Theater SRTM Create [Theater name]”.
- Put the theater center coordinates and the theater size in the text.
- Send the email.
- Wait for my reply.

I think we really do need an update in theater tools besides the amazing terrain editor from Sakis…

This link looks legitimate.
I opened the files of Afghanistan and Pakistan in GIS app (ArcMap 10.6.1) and they look ok to me:

I mean the detail is for laughs compared to current data, but the info is there. points names lines lakes like here the Dashte Nawur:

So if 10.6.1 doesn’t do the job for e00 9.3 will do it.
All that it seems to be missing is the GIS application and knowledge of the application to clip the wanted area which is rather easy.
Wow so you made it!, I mean looks like we got what we were looking for or do I still see a step missing, this is amazing to see. How about some part of India and we have a much awaited/wanted/desired Pak-Ind theater project getting to roll
-
So either something preventing Dem2terrain to work on my PC probably. Tried it in vanila win10 x64pro in a lapto and it runs with no problems, no admin rights, compatibility etc…… this is really strange… i will dig deeper into it…
EDIT: For those who gonna say why you dont use the laptop then? Answer the screen is freaking small thats why…
Cheers

yeap on the you missing a step or steps…
Walking blind by touch sense here.
we just try and error… I don’t know if the Blueprint step posted earlier is still mandatory. What I would consider the next logical step is to for each country to pack the e00 files and tosh them to dem2terrain along with the srtm elevation data.
Do you have those?
And the HDR file that dem2ter asks for? where it comes from? and what next? -

The elevation data is contained in the WorldMap.HDR file!!

From the dcw data use the convertor and you are done.
Remains to verify the change for \ to /.
But again dem2ter asks for an hdr file when you select open.
Let’s say we use the exact same hdr file as is in any theater, then what? How do you open the e00 files from dem2ter when it still asks for hdr?Στάλθηκε από το MI 5 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk

And where does that hdr file come from? How do you generate it for your theater?

Arty, C9 refers to what Joe Labrada has freely give to all BMS community. Its THE WHOLE world in DEM data… Now if you want to make a specific theater move the box (32/64/128/256 segments your choice) to the long/lat you want and you export the l2 filethats it! As for the converter you said i still haven’t had any luck on this…
Theater specific HDR files are nothing to do with the dem2terrain (refering to c:\falcon…\data\add-on xx\terrdata\terrain\xx.hdr) actually its a file the sim creates by it self -
Just an example:
-
Im digging into Global Mapper… It reads the files given by Esper. In their site current versions say that supports e00 file format import and export. It has an option of batch export to “retro” and has a couple of ESRI formats there… will look into it and report back
-
Manos your example is step 3.
We miss step 2 from here: https://pmc.editing.wiki/doku.php?id=falcon4:srtm:createSent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T818A using Tapatalk

Arty i will say again. DEM data ar provided from Joe Labrada for the whole world! I just fired up (after a lot of experimenting here and there and deleting unecessary stuff) dem2terrain loaded the worldmap.hdr added the coordinates and got this. Joe was kind enough to provide me all his e00 files (europe/russia/china… I loaded the dsired ones and im ready! What part you are missing exactly?

Direct me to that thread please. If I’m correct, it doesn’t work, but I’ll have to refresh myself!

The files are on this thread at post #19 now for the global mapper im still have to try… It might be 32/64 cause it does have Batch export but for arcinfoe etc it needs 32 bit version not 64 witch i dowloaded
