Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) missing on the F-16I
-
It’s always great to see this awesome sim (Falcon BMS) and of course this awesome theater (Israel) being updated to newest version!
However I’m a bit puzzled to see the Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) missing on the F-16I. This is because and first, the Israelis do equip their F-16Is with SDBs in real life as it can be read here:
https://www.flightglobal.com/israel-upgrades-f-16is-to-cope-with-missile-threat/117968.articleIn a separate initiative, Tel Aviv is equipping one squadron of F-16Is with Boeing’s GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb.
Secondly, the SDB seem to be among the best DEAD (Destruction of Enemy Air Defenses) weapons available to the Israeli Air Force (IAF) and their F-16Is (even because they don’t have/carry HARM missiles).
As such I would like to request that the SDB is restored as an available weapon to the F-16I like it happened with the Israel Theater for BMS 4.33

it might be a code issue but easily addressed with Falcas Mission Commander - have you used this brilliant tool?
If not hop onto here and I can walk you through it
(I love GBU 39 SDB)

The best DEAD weapon is MITL Delilah in ITO Theater with IAF. It’s a cruise missile with a standoff depending on the height it’s released with way over 150NM and is optically guided (Therefore the backseat in the 52+ CFT) and this weapon is modelled in the Isreal theater

Hi Stalker,
First of all, thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I’m not able to access the tool/file thru that link because it gives me an “Invalid invitation” message/error. Could you provide me another link?
(Yes, I also love the SDB )

Well, it depends on the situation.
Yes, the Delilah (which I also use sometimes) has some advantages such as:
- Some ‘theoretical’ moving target engagement capability (interesting if for instance if the ‘targeted’ Air Defense unit starts moving in the meanwhile)
- Capability to choose which target to engage or engage another target “In the Loop”.
However the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) also has several advantages such as:
- True “Fire-and-Forget” capability (although the weapon can only be used against static targets). This gives the ability to engage several targets in a single pass.
- Much more SDBs can be carried by the F-16I compared to the Delilah. The F-16I can carry at least 8 SDBs (and perhaps up to 16 SDBs can be carried but this I don’t remember and thus I’m not sure) which is much more than the 2 Delilahs that the same F-16I can carry which means that a much higher number of targets can be engaged/destroyed in a single mission/sortie.
- The SDB has a more powerful warhead (which allows it to used against a wider variety of targets).
- While not having the same range as the Delilah, the SDB also has a very long standoff range when released from high altitudes.

SDBs were available on the F-16I back in 4.33. Might have been a theater conversion omission on migration to 4.34.

Precisely!
Might have been a theater conversion omission on migration to 4.34.
Yeah, perhaps that’s the reason.
If this is the case then I hope that a fix eventually comes up soon. Afterall the SDB is among the most important air-to-ground weapons in the IDF inventory for its F-16I fleet in real life. -
There is no code issue or theater conversion issue involved here.
The hardpoint definition (3/7 hardpoint) in DB for the sufa is simply missing the SDB inclusion.
This is the case also with stock Korea. All is needed is DB update with the editor. -

I can´t find on the Mission Comander where i can change whatever i must change in order to have SDB available in the campaign. Any tips on where to go please?

it’s currently a code issue- hopefully fixed in the next release in 3-4 weeks.
