Morphine's Profile
-
Morphine, I was thinking of making my own profile with reference to your profile, however I am a bit confused about the .key files. For example, your Warthog_DX has a line SimLightsSteady which does not appear in the default BMS.key file. Why is this? If I copy that line to my own .key file, will it work in-game? I noticed you re-mapped the keyboard combos for some of the controls as well as removing some of them, again, why?
Just looking to learn from you. At the moment, I think I’ll just “hack” your profile and still use your .key file Thanks!
BTW, I am referring to the older version as I believe you’ve updated this one. I’ll try the updated one today! Thanks again!
The various .key files included with the game do not include all of the potential commands (callbacks) that work in the sim and some of the included callbacks actually don’t work anymore. I’m not a developer so I’m guessing that it’s just the code moving a little faster than the .key files.
Anyway, you can find a spreadsheet in your BMS/Docs/Falcon BMS Manuals/ directory called “Keyfile-generator.xls”. This has a listing of all the game callbacks and will be needed if you want to add custom functions to your .key file.
I changed a number of the functions to suit my tastes and cockpit setup – which is probably why you are thinking of doing your own as well As you know, there is a lot of personal preference in these setups.
Anyway, functions I’ve added should work but if you want to add a new one, I encourage you to test it in game to make sure it functions as expected. Finally, I’ll encourage you to make as many changes as possible in the .key file and only use TARGET to make changes to buttons that can’t be controlled by the .key file and more complicated keystrokes or axis commands.
Good luck.

Thanks for the help! I tried version 2 and like it so I’m putting my own customization on hold for now. Thanks for the explanation as well!

Just wanted to say thanks for the profiles and the setup ideas and tips. The G13 for an ICP/DED is an especially good idea and works out wonderfully. Also, I am able to use the FSSB with the Warthog throttle. I wouldn’t have been able to setup my controls without your help and profiles. See my setup below inspired by yours (mainly the G13).

Very nice Fuzz…. And I’m jealous of your FSSB. I’m hoping the RealSimulator guys do a version for the Hog Joystick.

I really hope they make one for the Warthog as well. The Cougar’s base doesn’t have enough surface area to stay in place using higher resistance. It really needs to be attached to a base like the Warthog’s. Right now I use a 25 pound weight on the front of the Cougar to keep it in place. Quite annoying. The FSSB does rock though.

Updated the profile to include the new Idle Cutoff code I developed. More details here:
First post link still active.

Sorry… found a bug in version 2.0
A new .tmc file has been uploaded. If you are using version 2.0, you should grab the fixed .tmc file.

Hi
I have your profile and its working fine so a really big thanks. In the long run it’s looking good but I’m finding transitioning from the old F4 keyboard commands a bit fiddly while trying to learn the sim (and the warthog at the same time). It’s difficult for example to follow some of the basic TE lessons from the F4 manual when basic commands like A-A & A-G master modes don’t map to F1 and F2 anymore. Bore sight ACM must be mapped somewhere but the manual’s instructions just don’t make much sense at all when Ctrl F5 doesn’t work. Maybe these are purely ICP 3D pit presses now in BMS? Scouring the manuals to see if SP3 or BMS 2 changed something in the way master modes work hasn’t revealed much yet though. Another minor issue is that having labels disabled, which is clearly the purist and correct way to play, is a bit of a pain as they really help new folks learn their radar craft. If you have any advice on how to translate from keystrokes to your profile then I’d be really grateful.
Cheers

With a fully-working 3D pit, you can now just click the relevant button to go to certain modes. Click the A-A button on the ICP = A-A master mode. Same for A-G. Click the OSB 19 or 20 on the left MFD (which hopefully shows the radar) and you can increase/decrease the scan range.

True but I’d really prefer to use HOTAS. Pgs 29-34 of the BMS manual are useful but obviously don’t refer directly to Morphine’s or the warthog profile. For new folks learning the sim it’s tricky to relate Ctrl-F5 (ACM Boresight) submode refered to in the manual to the HOTAS when in Morphines (& Dunc’s) more realistic keystroke is FLT CONTROL Lock LEFs. Could use a manual-to-HOTAS translation table I guess?

The joystick functions listed in the BMS Manual are identical to the profile for the joystick. I’ve also included all of the realistic functions listed for the Throttle, it’s just that they are on different buttons or axes given the differences between the physical throttles.
You can also use the PS Keys utility from my web site to make a keyboard map. Also, you can cchange the keystroke assignments in the .key file to suit your purposes as well.

Yep I run PSKEYS thanks. I agree the profile is accurate to the BMS manual but its a pain to follow the TE training scenarios in the F4 manual now because the keys are in their correct positions. How for example do I select A-A master mode. Radar-A to A has “no key assigned” in the profile and I can’t reassign F1 as it’s now ‘Sim-EWS Program Int’ and mapped to its ‘natural’ joystick button. Think as a learner trying to follow the manual and you might see my problem. I really appreciate your hard work but not much fun battling the warthog profile and the sim cos the manual doesn’t make sense
e.g. Take Pg 4-3 in the manual using F1 and F8 to cycle radar master and submodes? Where are the equivalents on the warthog or keyfile?
Sorry if this is dumb or making no sense. -

Sorry if this is dumb or making no sense.Oh… I didn’t catch in your orignal post that you are trying to learn the sim by using the original Falcon 4 manual. Your question makes more sense to me now. I’m not sure if any of the keystroke files out there still use the original F4 layout. In fact, I think the BMS developers have purposefully removed (or will remove) many of the “toggle” functions that existed in F4 to make the sim more realistic.
That said though, as the other poster’s have mentioned it might just be easier to find the equivalent functions in the 3D cockpit as they are all there now. For example, the selection of of the Radar mastermode and sub-modes that you mention on Page 4-3 are now accomplished by pressing various OSB buttons on the FCR page of the MFD. However, I agree with you that there is no one place that explains all of that and it is difficult for someone just starting out. You may want to consider joining one of the virtual squadrons and go through their training program.

NP. Its been a yonks since I flew the original F4 on release. I just naturally began at the beginning by hitting the manuals. I’m grateful for the profile and look forward to using it in all its glory one day very soon. I will take your advice and look for a VS… Tally Ho

Hey Morphine, tried using the little PSkeys program, but it throws an error message, does it have to installed and run from any particular location?
I also wanted to adjust the sensitivity of the response curve on joystick and throttle. You described using the numbers in the script, what would be a good range to start in ?
Thanks, Mark

Morphine Hello, I use your profile to HOTAS Warthog, I would like to ask you some questions.
1. How to regulate the intensity of night vision goggles?
2. With the TGP when after identifying my goal, if I push forward the TMS does not do I lock as I fix this?
3. How do I return the pointer to the center of the MAV TGP or HUD?Thank you for your help.
-
Hello Aspide,
1. I don’t believe the BMS NVG’s have adjustable brightness or contrast controls. They can just be turned on and off (keystroke “n”)
2. The TGP can only be “locked” on certain vehicles. For bombing buildings, stc, you need to be ‘ground stabilized’ or AREA mode. This thread has a discussion of the issue:
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?8631-Activate-point-track-TGP3. In most cases centering the Mav, TGP or HUD is accomplished by TMS down (sometimes twice). This usually takes you out of any tracking mode and returns the sensor to its default state. However, some sensors are slaved to another sensor in its default state (e.g. the TGP is slaved to the FCR) so you need to make sure the other sensor is also centered. In the case of the FCR, that can be centered using the “Cursor Zero (CZ)” OSB button on the MFD.
Just a quick suggestion… you will get better and faster answers to your questions by first searching the forums to see if someone else has already had the same question and then posting in the Technical Help Forum if you still can not find your answer. Of course, if your question is specific to my profile, please feel free to post here.

Hi Morphine,
Thanks for the great work, it’s a really useful profile!
I have 2 questions regarding your profile,
-
When I’m flying the plane zoomed out (using my mouse scroll wheel) and I depress MIC Switch (Up) for UHF, my view suddenly snaps back to normal zoom. Is there a way to disable this? (The snapback doesn’t occur with other buttons on the MIC Switch.) I’m asking as I usually fly zoomed out (esp for dogfights), and it’s really disorienting…
-
When I depress the MIC Switch (Down) in Setup Controllers, the command seems to “oscillate” between VHF and Scroll lock, is this normal? (Just wondering if it’s a manufacturing defect…Lol)
Cheers,
Toof -

Cheers,
Toof1.) I’ve never seen that behavior from the Mic Switch. I’ve got it set up to send both the UHF PTT command (for IVC) and Middle Mouse Button (which I use for Whisper in Teamspeak). Perhaps the middle mouse button is causing the problem. You could take out the Mouse button by swapping out this line:
MapKeyIO(&Throttle, MSU, DX27, CHAIN( MOUSE_CENTER, DX27));
with this line:
MapKey(&Throttle, MSU, DX27);
Also, if you are always in a zoomed out view you might want to set that as the default in your configuration.
2.) Same thing on the Mic Down button. It is sending two commands simultaneously (VHF PTT for IVC and Scroll Lock for TS3). to remove the TS3 part just substitute the following line:
MapKeyIO(&Throttle, MSD, DX29, CHAIN( SCRLCK, DX29));
with this line:
MapKey(&Throttle, MSD, DX29);
Hope that helps.
