[BMS Tool] Afterburner Detent Sounds

@sheref said in [BMS Tool] Afterburner Detent Sounds:
@danaos75 can use it to make external nozzel open and close sound?
The index is used with the CallBack,
I’m not sure if it’s possible to create your own
sfx_defs
block with a new sound/index and use that in the key file. It’s strange that the devs went to the trouble of creating a new CallBack and config setting but didn’t create a new sound - maybe this is what we are stuck with (425 sounds), the proto sound file doesn’t seem to suggest so -
@CriticalMass if it work i will share it

Also, try the GearUp/GearDown sounds (index: 119/118) - they have that two step sound like I assumed the Idle/AB detent would have
-
@CriticalMass what about it.
-
@sheref Sorry I really don’t know. I just wanted to hear the AB kicking in and out, cause my Throttle doesn’t have an AB detent.
-
@danaos75 falcon bms.confg
Set the detent to 1
It is about the throttle… about the external i will make it worke -

sorry, wasn’t clear. The current sound is a feeble pushbutton (index: 314), the Gear sounds sound much chunkier and louder. I’ve changed the number in my key file to point to the IdleDetents to index:118 and the ABDetents to index:119 (I’ll test it later)
-
@CriticalMass i will back home now to do it … as i say if it work correctly will share it
-
@sheref yes I know I had done that but the default sound is too low for my left ear . So I increased the volume of it with the method I mention above. Of course that made all pushbuttons to sound louder, but I don’t mind it.
@CriticalMass I see what you did now ,instead of trying to increase the volume of the default sound you chose a different sound file that had a louder sound. Excellent! I am happy with the louder click for now, but I will test your solution, maybe I will find a better sound file for AB detent (Gear sound as you suggest), as long as I don’t confuse it with the actual gear down / up process
-
Well, I’ve made a number of attempts to change the AB Detent sound and volume…unsuccessfully. I believe it is hardcoded into the application - happy to be wrong
-
@CriticalMass I think it did not work because there is no callback for AB detent when you increase or decrease the throttle. The callbacks that you mention above I believe are for when Setting the AB detent, not for when the throttle reaches that position. My solution still works, you can increase the volume of the default pushbutton sound.
-
@danaos75 Oh, I see, so a general increase for ALL uses of the pushbutton?
Out of curiosity, and reading the comments in the ‘F4SndTbl.textproto’ file, but it says that the max_vol is only used for external sounds
#### max_vol: # (1) Unused (keep 0 as default value) # (2) This is volume at MaxFeet, it only effects external sounds.
also this
# The volume is expressed in hundredths of a decibel and ranges from 0 (full volume) to -10,000 # (completely silent). # # The decibel scale is not linear, so you may reach effective silence well before the volume setting # reaches true silence at -10,000.
so a value of 10000 should have no, or a detrimental, effect.

@CriticalMass I read that too but for whatever reason it works. I also have a better one for you. If you want the Gear up - Down sound for your AB detent, then just keep the original sound files (PushButton_In.ogg, PushButton_out.ogg) as a backup and delete them. Then copy paste and rename the Gear Up - Down sound files to Pushbutton In - out respectively. That way the AB detent uses the Gear Up / Down sound for AB Detent. Of course all pushbutton sounds will sound like that , but I only found 2 pushbuttons that have that sound, on Test panel “Fire & OHeat detect” and “Mal & Ind Lts”. That’s what I did and it works great. The Gear up down sound is perfect for the AB. Thanks for the suggestion!

Great workaround, thanks!
So it does look like ABDetent sound is hardcoded.
perhaps the devs (very low priority) could implement this (note: the key is now a number not a boolean)
set g_nAfterburnerDetentClick 314 // Makes the clicks when the throttle passes the afterburner detent use the sound (index) identified by the value [Default is 0 (no sound)]
-
@mrkline
Fwiiw, your tool was a real savior.
I still use it in 4.36 as the detent click is way too low volume.
Fortunately it still works in 4.36.
Thanks! -
@danaos75
Thank you danaos75 for the detailed graphic to modify the F4SndTbl.textproto file. After a few brief tests, the solution is working well for me.GC

I think replacing the sound (with something louder or an amplified version) is a great short-term fix. I’ll look into getting it boosted in a future release.
Sounds in BMS are in a bit of a strange state, where the original F4 code clearly intended for sounds to be moddable (via the sound table), but lots of things are now hardcoded. It’s something several folks are interested in fixing, but everything is a question of priority…

Thank you for developing this wonderful application, it is very helpful.
One question. I keep two installations of BMS (4.35 and 4.36) . The application is always pointed to the launcher of 4.35 and I always have to manually set the route to the launcher of 4.36 when I open the program. Is there any way to set the default route to 4.36 launcher? -
@CriticalMass now I’m stuck with 440 sounds my last index added is 440 … now successfully i have nozzle stages sounds open and close … i was not able to make it happened if i didn’t link tow index with each other …
The problem now that nozzle sounds is linked with many keyboard switches and it go nice , if look to your wing man because he did not using the same keys u cannot hear the nozzle in it’s different stages.Sorry for my bad English.

@tristam299 I don’t believe BMS Burner has been updated for 4.37 but @kampfalk helped me out with this is another thread. Here’s his response…
“It looks for BMS directory in the registry at Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.35\baseDir. Changing or setting that to the 4.37 install location saves you some trouble.”
