Curiosity About 3D models
-
Greetings everyone,I am writing this topic to ask the community model makers what programs they use/prefer to work with that are compatible with falcon BMS.You see I am Product Design engineer student and we work a lot with apps like blender ,inventor by AutoCad and other and i would like to experiment with some model making for falcon.Any replies and tips are appreciated and to close i would like to thank the everyone involved with BMS because its the best simulator i have ever played.Cheers and greetings from Greece.

@petrouvis Hello !
Welcome here.
Let’s make it simple :
-
3dsMax is the software of choice for BMS modeling. It is the only software which supports Falcon BMS exporter. This includes animations and interactions of the model, which is only possible through BMS exporter tool (Dof and Switches).
-
Any other 3D editor can be used, but a 3ds conversion capability is needed to import into 3dsMax. Sketchup, Blender may indeed be used.
-
For graphics, Photoshop or Fireworks both work well, but you may need a proper conversion tool, such as Nvidia dds exporter to export to .dds DXT1 or 5.
Best regards,
Radium

@petrouvis I personally use blender and substance painter. You can use other 3D software to create the model but rigging and LODs must be done with 3DS.
Cheers

@Radium Thanks a lot for the reply i think i will continue to use blender but learning 3DsMax is also an option since we use it at our university.Now rigging animations and model interaction i will learn on the long run and through community posts.

@luke777 thanks a lot!

@petrouvis I really don’t recommend Blender… it will not allow you to make mechanical systems as nicely as in Sketchup
-
@Radium So 3Ds Max for the Model and Sketchup for rigging and mechanical systems that would be more preferable? Also thanks for the reply!
-
@petrouvis it just depends what you feel comfortable with !

Maybe You can use this add-on for it and you can reach both advantages of the cad and blender.
-
@repvez thanks i shall check out the addon and see
-
@petrouvis check boxcutter and hardops as well
-
@luke777 You cant use blender to rig?
