Solved Sorry - DirectX Problem...

I guess the simple answer is move to win 10…
Starting next release, BMS is developped fully against the win 10 SDK so forget win 7 and any version below…
-
@MaxWaldorf hooray for that … yep we are now just 1 month away from Windows 8.1 EOL!

@efsixteenblock50 not sure if this is your problem, but for Win7, BMS needs the post-SP1 “Platform Update” installed
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36805
(And you may need to update display driver, afterward.)
(Also BMS is x64 only now … but probably the installer has a better error message if trying to install on 32-bit? Haven’t tried.)
Thanks!
Looks like I’ve already got the platform update ( KB 2670838 ).
I’m not seeing anything relating to DirectX in that update but it does add some limited support for Direct3D 11.1… -

For sure.
I guess if I was adventurous, I could attempt a Windows 10 upgrade but that seems pretty risky. I’ve always done clean installs.
Since I can’t endure the down-time that would occur with wiping everything and doing a clean install + the massive amount of SW that I need, the only way forward seems to be spending 3K on another box.
Ever hear of anyone successfully doing a Windows 10 upgrade on top of an existing Windows 7 OS?
Thanks again!

Create another partition and do a dual boot with Win 10 on it specifically for gaming… Nothing that hard as long as you have the hard drive space / spare drives.
-
@efsixteenblock50 worth trying https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
it’s the same “directx_Jun2010_redist” that Max linked, but it’s the full 95MB download version… not the dxwebsetup version
I don’t understand why one would fail vs the other… so if that doesn’t work I’m out of ideas, sry.

Hey airtex - I really appreciate your efforts to help - seriously!

Thanks SOBO!
It’s definitely an idea although I gotta say I’m pretty gun-shy to attempt that…so many dual-boot horror stories…

What is the procedure to re-install BMS 4.36?
Do I need to un-install and scour my drive to remove every last bit of it’s presence, or…?
BTW - Sorry for the trouble. I know you have better things to do.
Thanks! -
Whew!
Glad I didn’t re-install!All I needed was:
d3dx9_43.dll
D3COMPILER_47.dll
d3dx11_43.dllFalcon BMS 4.36 is up and running!
I’d like to thank all of you who took the time to offer suggestions!
Now to get a stick profile going…that’s always a good time!
Thanks again and hope to fly with some of you soon!

Getting another box would still be the equivalent of doing a clean install + any massive amount of SW that you currently have… would be the equivalent of buying a new house because the old one was dirty & cluttered.
…just sayin’@efsixteenblock50 said in Sorry - DirectX Problem...:

Absolutely! Update the current OS to its max/EOL updates, if you have the space on a secondary drive in the system you can create a Windows System Image backup in case things go sideways - can always just revert to that image if an upgrade doesn’t take by reinstalling Windows 7 and restoring that image. Backup your files like any sensible person would, don’t forget the AppData folders, and even if things don’t work out, you won’t have lost anything.
just to hop on a soapbox and state the obvious:
Managing, updating , and upgrading your OS will always be less painful if you can take some time away from using the computer to establish good backup schedules and routines that you can rely on down the road. I have 2 drives dedicated to backups, one is 2TB for system images of my 1TB OS NVMe drive, the other is 4TB for local file backups including crucial locations such as My Documents and AppData, among others such as all my voiceattack profiles work, etc. This is in addition to a cloud backup where I mirror My Documents and AppData, and also which holds my Notepad++ installation & operating folders. I take a new system image every month, and my backup schedule runs daily. I manually mirror crucial files to the cloud daily like new voiceattack profiles I’m working on.TBF, backups are more crucial for me as I’m a managing member of an online gaming community & do a lot of coding projects for that and myself, but still… data loss is awful when we have so many means to protect it nowadays, including the old legacy Windows System Images which is still so helpful & useful even tho it’s buried in modern backup options menus in Win10.

It’s funny - when I wrote that, I thought that’s what someone might say.
The difference is - if I buy a new rig, I still have the old one running to get work (not BMS) done.
I’m still going to get a new rig. Even though my current one runs BMS great, It’s a "reconditioned’ PC that I’ve had since 2016.
Don’t wanna push my luck. -

Don’t wanna push my luck.IMHO, all PC owners should also be laptop owners - in the event that the PC goes down, the laptop exists to google and troubleshoot, pull backup files from your cloud backup folders and continue work as needed, and possibly even plugging the monitor into the laptop, as well as the keyboard and mouse, to use the same user interface while the PC is down. Doesn’t need to be anything expensive, unless your work involves photo/video editing & rendering.
I can relate to gaming on a budget, took years to save up for the gear I have now. I had found a cheap “reconditioned” laptop many years ago to serve a backup computer purpose, until I replaced it with a more powerful lappy that can play simple games at low quality with a dedicated Nvidia GPU chip inside - 7 years later, still reeling from the price of that new “gaming” laptop, but I still have it and it still works great.
Best wishes and good luck to you!

Yeah I agree about having a laptop. Although they kind of bug me in that pretty much all laptops run on the hot side - it’s an engineering problem that never seems to get truly solved, just made to work good enough.
Reconditioned can be a great way to go - I’ve got a place near me that sells reconditions PCs and laptops. That’s where I got this PC. Five years ago, I picked this up for $500 - I7 “Sandy Bridge” CPU, big power supply, 24 gigs of RAM. Had 2 “OK” GPUs running in SLI which gave me nothing but trouble so I picked up a GTX-1050TI a couple of years ago.
The thing I like about reconditioned (besides the value) is the install is clean - no gifted “crapware”. Cabling is immacualte.
Runs BMS without blinking. -

I have fixed my problem by making changes to the registry editor.

@efsixteenblock50
I just came up with the same problem. How do I find and install those 3 dll’s? Thanks. -
Never mind I found it.
