New Launcher: Severe lagging or freeze
-
- Windows 11
- 4.37 Fresh install in C drive root dir
- Updated to 4.37.1
- Removed all USB devices and dongles that are not actual flight sim controllers
- Antivirus disabled for entire falcon directory
- Many, many reboots
New launcher runs so slowly that it is unusable for setting up controls. There is a lag of ~30 seconds between moving my mouse and seeing the cursor move on the screen. Same when actually pressing a controller button to bind. Press the button and sometimes up to a minute before the launcher registers the bind, if at all.
It took me well over an hour to get my basic axis controls bound (just pitch roll and yaw). Once launched, the sim itself runs perfectly. VR is butter smooth and looks great. I just can’t do anything LOL.
I’ve been to Discord, Reddit, Falcon Lounge, and here looking for help. I’ve found one or two others having the same issue. Most of the help I’ve received has just been guesses by people who haven’t experienced the issue themselves. Among the people who have the issue, everyone else seems as lost and as stuck at the starting line as I am.
Making one final hail mary forum post before giving up.
Please help! Thanks!

What does your cpu usage look like when it’s lagging? You can check in Task Manager under the Performance tab.

@Su-27-com can you tell us basic hardware specs, also your USB devices?
For the folks experiencing this, any commonality in hardware or devices?
-
I just had this issue but I quit the launcher, unplugged rudder/hotas, restarted windows, and it seems to be working fine for me now.
-
There’s nothing alarming going on.
CPU 10%
Memory 40%
GPU: 20%This is with Steam VR running. I’ve experimented with VR on and off and it has no impact on the issue.

@Su-27-com said in New Launcher: Severe lagging or freeze:
one or two others having the same issue.
happen to know if there’s any commonality, in hardware or OS etc?
just to help narrow things down … if you’re willing to try … maybe reboot with nothing plugged in (VR headset or USB devices except keyboard/mouse)
plug in 1 item at a time, restart the launcher after each. see if the problem shows up in response to a particular device.
the symptoms you’re describing are very weird… seems like kernel-mode interrupt conflicts. not the kind of thing that typically happens with plug-and-play devices in the year 2023

@Su-27-com another angle to pursue … try some other WPF-based application, see if it causes similar problems?
OCCT is probably the most popular (and relevant) tool based on WPF that I can think of…

Tagging @regev @VDK @pipboy1989 who are also reporting this.
Hoping to discover some commonality in system specs… or misbehaving device drivers.

Hi, there’s a post on /rBMS reddit channel about AL freezes due to some USB device being connected:
https://www.reddit.com/r/falconbms/comments/18d58bu/alternative_launcher_freezing_and_lagging_with/According to the guy, he’s experiencing this issue when external DAC : HiFime TYPE C USB DAC (ES9018K2M+SA9023) is connected. Once device is unplugged, launcher is snappy again.
