Falcon BMS VR not working on Linux
-
I know that Falcon BMS is a Windows game and that it does not have Linux support, however I am hoping that we can work together to troubleshoot an issues with BMS 4.37 not running in SteamVR on Linux (BMS update 1 is installed). BMS runs great on Linux in 2D, it simply does not run in the VR headset (Valve Index) and just runs on the monitor. “g_nVRHMD” is set to “1” in Falcon BMS.cfg.
I also posted an issue report on Valve’s Proton Github repo and hope that they can find a solution, however this may take a long time. The issue report is here if you’re interested: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3991#issuecomment-1443831285
Log files from my error report on Github:

https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/files/10825625/Falcon.BMS_dxgi.logSome background info: I have been using VR on Linux for a few years now and almost all games work with great performance (incl. DCS and IL2 in VR). Games are usually Windows-only games and us Linux users rely on Proton, which is a compatibility layer that emulates Windows. Proton is part of Steam.
I am hoping that there is an opportuntity to partner with you to fix the VR issue on Linux. Not sure if you have the interest and bandwidth for it, but at least I wanted to ask and offer my help. If there are any additional log files I can provide to identify the root of the problem please let me know.

Sorry but I will be clear on the fact that we won’t support your request from a BMS perspective.
This is way out of our control since we are completely bound to windows and directx apis…

Appreciate the reply and no problem at all. I totally get that this is out of scope (but I wanted to give it a try anyways). Hopefully we’ll see a Proton/Wine update soon that fixes the issue.
Appreciate all the great work you and the team are putting into BMS. This simulation is one of a kind.
