Unsolved Flying in a flat-bottom metal boat
-
I encountered a first-time ever bug that was really weird.
Brand new Iron Fortress campaign
Stock KTO
No ModsDuring an A/G mission my flight had to go A/A and the sky was a furball. I’m was in RWS, and I finally managed to isolate a bandit with my initial TMS up. As I prepared to Fox3, I TMS-up again to STT and instantly my entire cockpit, canopy, and wings disappeared. I was sitting in an empty flat-bottomed metal boat with a HUD display floating in front of me (no HUD frame, just the display).
My plane looked normal in external views.
Believe it or not, I was able to make it back home and land successfully.
In all these years, this is a first for me. Any insights?

@SoBad that’s a view in BMS for home cockpit users. Don’t remember the name though.
-
It’s called “Empty Cockpit Shell” and is triggered by “OTWToggle3DEmptyShell”
-
Shift + 2 is how to get to that view.
Hit 3 to get back to 3d -
I used to use this quite a bit, on my older rig where I struggled with fps performance… eg. for landing. Instant performance boost. And slightly better visibility down/over the nose…
Doesn’t work for all jet cockpits, though, if I recall…

My testing shows that “Hitting 3 to get back to 3D” does NOT work. I must hit <Shift>2 again to toggle back to normal cockpit view.

<Shift>2 still shows the outside nose of the jet. In my issue, even the nose of the jet was gone. And it was triggered somehow by TMS-Up, not <Shift>2.

@SoBad if it never repros … chalk this up to a cosmic ray hitting your VRAM or something.
if it does repro … try to nail down those repro steps
-
@SoBad perhaps different keystroke file than me?…
-
@SoBad The same for me. Shift +2 and back in business.
