VR display on flat monitor settings?
-
Hi guys !
I’ve got the Pico4.
I just need to sets some things so the cockpit displays (ded, MFDs) could be finaly readable and useable for important squadron flights.
BUT, i’ve got an other problem that could be not specific to the Pico4.Long story short, additionnal to my VR Headseat, I’m running on triple screen monitor also (3xfullHD) and have other screens for my cockpit :
Here is my problem : The VR companion (VR display export on the main monitor) is shown on the left side of my triple screen. As the resolution is above FullHD, it goes lower than the monitor itself. In windows, my left MFDs is placed just there, so a part of the VR Companion is displayed on the MFDs also.
I assume that this could take some useless ressources from my computer to “split” the VR companion onto 2 different screen, especially if these 2 monitors are not on the same GPU (3070ti for the tripple screen, and USB or 1050ti for the MFDs).
Also, if someone tries the VR headset in my pit, i cannot really check what he sees has i can only see half of the VR display. Same if i want to live-stream my screen within OBS Studio.
Is there any settings available for this VR Companion, for example, being able to :
- Move it
- Resize it
- Show the “normal non-VR”, instead of what i have in my headset ? (some kind of Hybrid display). Maybe such an option would never be possible ?
- … ?
Here is the only setting i found on this forum or BMS Manual.
set g_bVRNoPresent 1 // set to 1 to disable companion
Thanks a lot !

@Fullnegi Welcome to the Pico 4. Its an excellent headset for BMS
Your pit looks fab. I’d say its a hard choice to leave that for VR!
If you are using Virtual Desktop (which I highly recommend with the pico 4. Best solution out there to manage desktops in VR), there an option to scale or leave the desktop resolutions native. (Use Optimal resolution). Just leave it off. However you might find the display clarity is degraded due to the much lower resolution inside the Pico compared with your monitors. Maybe you are trying to get too much with good pico image and clear duplicate image centered with right resolution on the center monitor? I leave the screen mirroring off because of its imapct on FPS, and if I want to demo the VR i’ll use a replay in DCS. Recording I do with the Pico recorder 2kx2k is as good as the screen capture of OBS is going to give.
Just my 0.02$ as some one who has several screens, differing resolution, and battled with wheather to stay with my G9 (5120x1440) of go full VR. Now, i could never go back to a 2d monitor.
I cannot comment on VR companion, as I don’t use it, since everything is clear enough in the pit for me, including the kneeboards!
You don’t give your system specs ?

Hello Fish ! Thanks for your answer !

-> Thanks a lot ! But why should i choose? Actually, having the VR into my cockpit, sit in the right position, having the real controls and be able to activate the switches, ICP, MFDs by hand at the correct location is REALLY great I must say (I just must be carefull for the ICP dobber )I don’t use Virtual Desktop and cannot buy it (the headset is shared actually, not mine)…
For the problem of resolution into the cockpit, i could solve it !
I posted my solution on the Pico4 topic : https://forum.falcon-bms.com/topic/24097/pico-4-experience-and-settings/62I’m running on 5600x/3070ti/16gb 3200mhz, I just set 90hz for the headset, and with the settings Ultra, i’ve got 70fps. I should be able to improve that.
For VR Companion, maybe that’s not the right term. I just wanted to describe the VR display that display on your flat monitor.
I tried to active the option “set g_bVRNoPresent 1 // set to 1 to disable companion”, i’ve got the loading screen of falcon locked on several monitors. when i’m flying. That’s not great for me if i want to keep discord, OBS, … on these monitors. I’ll try to make some photographs/screenshot to show.
Beeing able to move it would be really great already.
Resize it would be awesome. -

Was wondering about that. Sounds absolutely amazing to use your pit and VR.

I’ve been tweaking settings for DCS to try and get smooth experience, and with a combination of DCS settings and reducing my render rate to 72Hz, I’ve finally got buttery smooth without motion smoothing (which is pretty crap for dogfighting). I now leave the headset at 72Hz in BMS also, and don’t notice any difference, but smoother at airbases etc, where I was getting less than 90FPS. 72Hz might be worth a try for you, and others, struggling with FPS and Pico 4.,

Was wondering the same. I started DCS after making my BMS VR headset config, and DCS is not longer playable haha.
I’ll try to be back on 70hz, i think that will be good also.Maybe we can move this topic to Pico4 section finally

Quest2 user here.
I think I understand your issue with the companion window and it is NOT unique to specific headset. I have set g_bVRNoPresent 1 as well, and it still results in having the entire flat monitor screen taken up by an oversized static ‘hangar’ loading screen.
I don’t understand why we need to see this.
Maybe the devs can get rid of it entirely in a future upgrade?
