Does a 3D scanner is usefool to create 3D model fidelity for BMS ?
-
@hiuuz Yeah. hé hé hé. If i get that when i go to london air force museum. A take a photo from all weapons XD
so, i’m sure with Scale model we can have a good 3D model

I don’t think 3D scanner would be useful. Probably baaaaably optimized 3D models would comes out from such brutal method (without big rework/post processing). Would not add more quality and would probably add much more works.
But better let 3D artist and GFX coders/gurus answering that question. -
@Dee-Jay yes, I would line to know more. I’m motivate !

Hello,
In fact… It could be really useful.
It was done in the past on DCS, and there is ways to decrease automatically the level of triangles to get something nice.
However, it requires some specific knowledges to make it work.

guys, do you know if Fusion 360 software can be usefull ?
-
@hiuuz a plastic model is not exact. Someone made a 3d model based on 3-views and photos, whith whatever error that implies. It was machined into a mold with tolerances (more error) and injection molded in plastic, which shrinks somewhat (more error). Then you want to 3d scan it (more error) and turn that point cloud into a 3d model (more error still).
If you can 3d scan a real aircraft, go for it. Else it’s better to start from scratch…
-
@Nikolas_A Yes, that is why I said, a museum or a real airplane on display would be a good choice.

Hi,
issue is this one :
When you make a 3D scan, lots of things are imprecise.
Then, you can’t easily make clean connections, and you will have a huge cleaning work. Also, cutting parts that shall be animated will not be fun.
Finally, the number of triangles is easily huge with this kind of process for some parts that may not need it.

Permission to add “usefool” to my vocabulary

I’m not a fan of Digital Cinema Simulator (DCS) but I have to admit and take my hat off to HEATBLUR, they used photogrammetry and laser scanning with LIDAR to create this beautiful machine of my dreams, the F-4 Phamtom II.
After all, whether it was useful or not, here is the result, thousands of hours of graphic design and 3D modeling saved and wonderful work. They deserve the recognition.

@Radium hello Radium !
Thank you ! i’m testing that this week with EeinScan pro X2 -
switch to photogrametry ! result in the next week.
