Hud Font size projection adjustment
-
Hi,
I have a problem with the 3d cockpit Hud with the default camera position when landing.
I have noticed that when landing its too easy for the fpm to dissapear out of the hud projection area (the fpm is displayed with an x) when increasing alpha beyond ~-15 degrees or so with result to loosing critical information.
As a result I find myself having to change to hud only view when landing
I think the font information size in the projection is slightly too big as a result the fpm goes out of projection area too easily.
Here is a good photo showing how small information displays from default head positions IRL :
At default head position Hud information is small and a little difficult too read
I realise the Hud projection size alters with Head position so it gets smaller when you move closer due to collimator and the way its modelled but moving head position closer in 3d cockpit doesnt solve the problem…
Can we get an option to adjust this or is this adjustable in a configuration file in any way?
I realise some people might prefer the original and easy to read enlarged HUD projection so an option to slightly zoom in/out the hud projection would be great.

In the folder:
…\Falcon BMS 4.37\Data\Art\CkptArtFind your cockpit… open the 3dCkpit.dat file with a text editor
find the lines:
// font settings for displays hudfont 4; hudwarnfont 6; mfdfont 7; dedfont 10; pflfont 10; rwrfont 11; hmsfont 13;
be free to play with them… you can mess around but get a safe copy of the original file
There is a lot of folders, may be you join in a F16 plane that is not using your edited file… be sure to test in the same plane (BMS plane and folder name)

I tend to agree either the hud is rendered a bit too large, or default head position is a bit too far back, or both.
I don’t think font-size will help with the position of the fpm marker at all… why does moving head position forward a few inches, not help? It does, for me.

What’s wrong with this? On speed, and everything visible. As I understand it, this is pretty much what it looks like.

Your head might be a bit too much aft or perhaps a bit low, as some of the symbology at the bottom right is cut off.

@razo It’s cut off because I have “HUD NAV mode ALT and SPD tapes lag” enabled. They follow the FPV in pitch when in NAV mode with the landing gear down.
Here is a picture of the HUD in flight:
