SweetFX for BMS
-
Allow me to clearify…
FlightFX is SweetFX with a GUI wrapper.
I have IL2 COD working fine with FlightFX
FalconBMS did not work with FlightFxhowever, just inserting the SweetFX files directly into the BMS folders
per Ron’s instructions did work. Just wasn’t very prominent as the same settings were for IL2 COD.
Plus, SweetFX made FalconBMS GUI blink a lot until it finally settled down. Something isn’t quite right.
So I uninstalled the SweetFX files by reversing Ron’s instructions. I don’t need it that much for BMS.
For IL2 COD, its critical because it makes bogie tallies much easier.Neither SweetFX nor FlightFX will allow BMS to even load on my computer. BMS just disappears after you click launch.

Try THIS.;)
Thanks redfalcon I got it working. I had to install SweetFX first as you showed, then installed FlightFX and they both work now.

Guys I confirm the following works like a Charm… I’m a happy SoftTH and SweetFX users by now… Wooohooooo!!!
Hopefully this will help people trying to do the same. I’m using softth 2.08b alpha on Vista 64-bit but I imagine it’ll work on any version.
Softth has a line in its config file for specifying the d3d9.dll to load - if I use this with the fxaa dll or the smaa dll I would get this error:
–-------------------------
SoftTH message windowDirect3DCreate9Ex not in DLL!
Windows 7 or newer required!
‘d3d9_fxaa.dll’OK
I’m using Vista but I’m guessing it would give the same error in Windows 7 since the fxaa/smaa dlls don’t expose that function.
So I can’t use that option. Here’s the steps I used instead:
1. Get softth working the way you want without the fxaa or smaa injector.
2. Rename the softth d3d9.dll to soft.dll, and move it into c:\windows\syswow64 (64-bit Windows) or c:\windows\system32 (32-bit Windows)
3. Put the fxaa or smaa or whatever postprocessing d3d9.dll (and the rest of its accompanying files) in the place where your softth used to be (the game dir)
4. Use a hex editor on the fxaa/smaa dll and rename everywhere you find d3d9.dll to soft.dll (should be about 3 places) - be careful not to add or remove any bytes to the file!
5. That’s it.In theory this should work for the old version of softth as well.
I’m using it with Dead Space currently. Vista 64-bit, softth 2.08b, single Nvidia GTX 295. I’ve used both “injectSMAA” and “fxaa post process injection” so far, and both work (if using fxaa, use the fxaa_tool.exe to disable all the effects you don’t want that it adds by default).
Good luck Smiley

Not sure if this will help anyone since I’m on W7 and it sounds like those having issues are on Vista, but I put the files in the needed folders for BMS and uploaded. Just extract the folder in this download and then drop the folder onto the harddrive where BMS is stored and click yes when it asks if you want to merge (for example for me I drop the Falcon BMS folder onto my C drive and it will automatically put the files where needed). If you have BMS installed in your program files, then drop the folder on the Program files folder. Then go in the game, go to Setup, and turn off multisampling. In game SCOLL LOCK will turn it on or off and PAUSE BREAK will reload it if you pause the game and alt-tab and adjust settings. You’ll know if its working even in the UI because I have Sepia and HDR turned on in the config file in this download. To adjust go into your FalconBMS\Data folder and edit the SweetFX_settings file.

Its a bunch of dds files, I think its the wrong file.

Well I bumped the AA settings up to max in SweetFX and the result was a massive FPS hit but the quality of the AA was poor?, stock BMS multi sampling at level 4 is much better, however the SweetFX HDR adds a good realism that I like so think I can live with the jaggies……if anyone has any good settings for SweetFX please post, cheers.
I thought you had to turn off Multisampling in BMS to get it to work? Can you turn off the AA in SweetFX and use the BMS one and it will work? I agree the AA in SweetFX is minimal. Otherwise IMO SweetFX is not worth having no or minimal AA.

Well I think its a known issue and been worked on so AA is WIP, so lets give them a chance to get it right……but yeah even at max AA settings AA was as you say ‘minimal’, but can’t understand why the FPS is taken hits at high AA settings if the result is poor?, oh well hope they sort it.;)
You do have to disable In game’s AA/MultiSampling, But, You can still enable the graphics Card Drivers AA and force them to run AA,
So SweetFx will not crash that way, and thus you can have better AA, and still use SweetFX other settings - if your graphics card can handle it.SweetFX’s AA is a different faster lighter method for smoothing, it is known as faster but has lesser quality than traditional AA.
For me it’s good enough. for some - not. up to you.
About FPS drop - make sure you check correctly :
1. BMS with MultiSampling ON , and no SweetFX installed.
2 .Then BMS with MultiSampling OFF with SweetFX running ONLY SMAA, and not any other thing.Do not compare FPS only by disabling SFX, pressing the Scroll lock key! then you will leave BMS with no AA at all, and sure enough - your FPS will rise…

I like what this program has to offer and the many tweaks I have applied to the game has brought new life to the game. However I have followed your instructions and im not seeing any FPS gain. Just a significant drop. Its going to force me to kick it to the curb

By Redfalcon, Correct, switching AA to Override Application settings works with SweetFX, however I’m sure that doing this can cause CTD’s in BMS?..…
I have Graphics Card AA set to Overide Application with no problems at all.

You can still either run it without AA settings and just use your default ones…via gfx setup oof your driver and enable all the rest in BMS except the one tick for Multisampling.
Or-use gapa, see a few pages before here. Effect is soo similar and it does not hurt anything.Good luck

Hey crazyTom, I think your right, GaPa is awesome and no FPS hit, but how do you get screen shots when in HDR mode etc with gapa?, all the screen shots just look like normal stock BMS colours?
Well, redfalcon, TBH you don’t. BMS does not allow to take shots captured with fraps, because for Il-2 I capture my shots with fraps when gapa runs and I want to take the ambient.
Maybe a newer version of fraps does that. The only thing you could try would be a Windows screenshot (alt+print, then ctrl+prnt to copy that one into paint).
Good Luck!BTW you just gave me an idea for another sim…;)

I can’t uncheck read only from BMS folder(and all folder).
