FFR on Quest 3
-
Hi,
I started with VR in BMS a few days ago with a Quest 3.
The one issue I’m having ist the rather strong fixed foveated rendering. Everything is super sharp in the centre but gets blurry at a certain distance from the middle. This is pretty annoying with the Kneeboards, since I can’t read them without twisting my head in a very uncomofortable way.
I don’t have this issue in DCS where I connect with Quest Link.
Is this a BMS setting or a Steam VR thing? I cannot find a setting for the FFR in either BMS nor in Steam VR.Regards

I’m a former Quest 2 user who has been using the Quest 3 for months now, and I’m surprised by your post.
With Quest 2’s fresnel lenses, good resolution was only available at the small area of the center of the lens, with sharpness rapidly diminishing away from the center of the lens, so if you wanted to see something in good resolution, you had to move your head to center the item of interest at the very center of the lens.
With Quest 3’s new pancake lenses, however, it is a magnitude better at rendering a high resolution around the entire FOV (that is, holding your head in place and looking around without moving your eyes).
Also, Quest 3 does not offer dynamic foveated rendering. However, the pixel density is a bit higher in the center portion of the lens, as you may have implied-- but not to the degree that blurriness is an issue outside of that small center area.
The only thing I can think of in your case is that the interocular distance may need to be adjusted on your headset, because I have never experienced any blurriness whatsoever. Hope this helps.

I just found the solution. I realised that I can connect via Quest Link and still use Steam VR. And now it works just fine.
