Unsolved NVidea 4 Display Port Problem with Surround 2x3
-
I have 4 displays. I cannot get 3-display across surround with a 2x3 format. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 will only do 1x3 and I lose the top display.
-
I consulted with an NVIDIA representative online and the agent stated I need a Quadro graphics card to support this kind of surround display format. I am currently using a GeForce GTX 1070. Looking at buying a Quadro P6000.

@mjones
Eh?? Maybe a limitation of a 1070? I had 3 across the top and one below the centre screen for my Helios touchscreen. Having said that, my 3 were tied together via Surround so they showed up as one ultra-super-widescreen and one 16:9 so maybe that was why it worked… -
@Atlas Yes, what card were you using?

@mjones
I had a 980Ti then a 3080. Having said that, most GPUs can only output to 3 displays despite having 4 or even 6 output ports. My 3080 has 3x DP and 3x HDMI but that just means I have options to mix and match for my 3 screens, not that I can have up to 6 screens. My max display setup was 5 screens – 3 on the GPU with Surround, 1 via the motherboard/onboard GPU, 1 via a USB dock. -
@mjones It is not a matter of number of displays, it is a matter of the maximum combined resolution of all displays (as well as refresh rate). The 1070 you have (like many) has a maximum resolution of 7680x4320 at 60Hz through DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0b, and Dual-link DVI ports.
This means that you need to calculate those of the displays you have to fit within this limit. Basically, most cards can support up to 4 displays so long as each has no greater resolution than 1920x1080 and each had a refresh rate set to no greater than 60Hz …alternatively, this card could also support 2 displays at 3840x2160 (aka 4K) so long as each had a refresh rate set to no greater than 60Hz.
So, in the end, you can either get a crazy expensive industrial video card that can support this number of displays and hopefully have the same or better gaming performance as a dedicated gaming, given that the Quadro line is not typically optimized for gaming performance but rather scientific and industrial work such as modeling and other stuff, OR you could get displays that CAN be supported in Surround Mode by your current card (i.e. 4x 1080p at 60Hz).
-
@Atlas FTR, the reply I posted above applies to your case, as well. You can connect more than 3 displays so long as they are under the maximum resolution and refresh rate supported by your card - also 7680x4320 at 60Hz - or again, up to 4 displays each at 1080p no greater than 60Hz each.
-
@SemlerPDX Without surround on the bottom three displays, the two larger displays are set at 1920x1080 and the smaller displays on the sides are set at 1360x768. I did not know that the Quadro cards are not optimized for gaming performance. The NVIDIA tech did not mention that. What card do you recommend that will support surround on the lower three and the fourth display working in the arrangement I have shown?
-
@mjones Really? I did not know that… (that the combined resolution of all your displays is in fact below the maximum of that card) - Are they all set to 60Hz refresh rate? If not, try that, and then try setting all of them in Surround Mode

Yes, all are at 60Hz. I don’t have the option of a 2x3 format on the NVIDIA control panel. If I choose 1x3 for surround on the bottom 3 displays, it locks out the top display and is of no use.

Found a good review for the NVIDIA Quadro P6000 here,

@SemlerPDX
I think I had the issue with the 980Ti just supporting 3 displays and just went with that going forward. I’ve since ditched that setup though due to VR, so now just using a 4K 55" OLED TV for most of my gaming and also for sim testing, but for more “serious” flights, I fly in VR.@mjones
Have you confirmed that you can tie all 3 monitors together in Surround with them being different sizes/resolutions? The last time I tried this was maybe back in 4.32 time, so a long time ago, and basically had to do some fancy-shmancy stuff just to get things to work. Ideally, you’d want your Surround monitors to be the same resolution even if they’re not the same size, ie, all 1920x1080 even if the centre is 27" and the sides are 24"… although with that setup, I would wager the resulting image would look weird anyway.What is your CPU/motherboard? If it has an integrated GPU, then you may be able to plug in the 4th display there assuming that is used for instruments and not part of the 3D graphics.

Just installed the nVIDIA Quadro P6000. Still trying to figure out how to use it with surround on the bottom 3 displays. The nVIDEA control panel gives me the same options on displays as the GeForce 1070. It does not come with a manual to describe how to use the card for multiple displays. No pdfs or YouTube videos online either. Slow learning curve with no direction.
-
@mjones is there some special “Quadro Experience” software instead of “GeForce Experience”? (idk)
-
@airtex2019 I just found some info under a different name here,

More here,

@mjones
That PDF is dated 2011.
The website says it supports up to 32 displays. I doubt that’s off of one video card. I doubt any of that will work with games. Is there any specific line or blub that says otherwise? -
New problem, first time running BMS 4.37 with new nVIDIA Quadro P6000 card,
graphics output default to display 2.Starting the mission, screen is split between bottom center and right displays 3 and 1 (see display arrangement above). When I try to change graphics display output to display 1 and click on “apply”, the sim crashes. Please mark “Unsolved”.

Did you just really spend £2,000+ for a workstation GPU?

@Atlas $850 USD

Just started the sim again , somehow it returned to centering the sim on the main display as was with the GeForce 1070. Display output 1 is shown as the default output Not crashing on display 1 output is progress. I don’t know why I couldn’t change from display output 2 earlier without crashing the sim. Still unable to use mosaic to merge (surround) the bottom 3 displays. I have called nVIDIA and started a case with them. I will advise when I get some answers from them.
Trying to get answers from other nVIDIA resources.https://www.nvidia.com/en-in/design-visualization/solutions/nvidia-mosaic-technology/
