Tacview – Understand what happened during your last flight! (alternative ACMI viewer)
-
Nice point… but asking them from Tacview we just make his pocket thicker instead of asking them from BMS team or a free lance coder that could create something for totally free. No ofence on Tacview creators maybe I would do the same thing… but in the sence of our RobinHood Community we prefer free stuff…

Awesome program always wanted something like this for studying BFM outside sim.

@Vyrtuoz: Nice software, I have a feature request even though I’m not supporting you financially. The ability to remove or hide ground units or hide labels by vehicle type. One benefit of this would be decluttering ground units from an air battle in a PvP sortie or similar. Whether or not its already in the pro version I can’t tell, but I’m sure someone else would also benefit from having this feature.
-
Absolutely, I’m currently redoing the 3D view; one of my goals is to make it more readable even when there are a lot of ground units. I am working on an automatic de-cluttering feature, NATO icons and 3D shapes to replace triangles and cubes
-
Please! Better scrolling for map position. It is very difficult to modify the view when following air battle. Middle mouse level pan for map coordinates, please!
-
Indeed, this is related to what I call the strategic view. I’m currently working on the best way to improve view scrolling in that case.

Tacview 1.2.1 is out!
http://www.strasoftware.com/download/tacview
This version can displays turn-rate and turn-radius like in Falcon 4! I’ve also added support for static objects of type ‘border’ so you can create more user-friendly debriefings.
Enjoy!

Keeps crashing everytime i try to Open a file. Previous versions works fine. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
-
Works fine here.
-
Can you share me your file? (please also tell me what version of Falcon and theater you have used to generate it)
Keeps crashing everytime i try to Open a file. Previous versions works fine. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

If you double click and acmi file it will open automatically in Tacview. No problem here. However, if you open tacview and select Open>new file it will CTD
-
Vyrtuoz,
I have e-mailed you with the info you requested. Let me know if you need anything else.
Mystic_J, thanks for your post. I have tried just double clicking on an ACMI and yes, Tacview 1.2.1 then works fine. As soon as i go to File, Open, Tacview CTD. No problems with v1.2.
Thanks,
-
Well the major problem with this CTD is that you cannot select theaters.
-
Vyrtuoz,
Thanks for this great software and continuing support (and for you help with the integration of IT!)
Now I wish to report an issue: have a problem running tacview on my laptop. It’s not new to 1.2.1 and was present also in older versions. On most ACMI files the program hangs for a few seconds and then I get the windows error message (check for solution / close the program). It can happen some time into the recording or instantly upon opening up a file. It seems to be worse when there are many units in the recording or if I play with the camera view.
Laptop specs: HP pavilion G6-1040sj - core i3 2310m, 3 GB DDR3, integrated graphics 4500mhd, windows 7, directx 11.tacview runs flawlessly on my desktop computer (q9550/ 560 ti / 6 gb ddr3).
Here’s a recording for example which crashes tacview. This is from a campaign in Korea:

Indeed, according to your feedback, it looks like I’ve broken something under Windows XP.
Since I’m leaving for vacation I may publish the fix only in few weeks. Sorry for this delay…
-
Finally, I’ve fixed the crash this night
You can now download Tacview 1.2.2 which fix the crash in v1.2.1 when opening/saving a file under Windows XP. Sorry for the inconvenience…
-
Vyrtuoz thanks for the quick support, however that didn’t solve the problem for me. Also note that I’m running windows 7, not XP.
In any case these things can wait, have fun in your vacation! -

Hi Vyrtuoz,
I can confirm that 1.2.2 has fixed the problem for me in Windows XP. Thank you so much for the quick fix and for this great software.
-
Hello Echo
It is possible that you have found another bug. The crash I’ve fixed is specific to Windows XP and the corresponding code is not executed under Windows 7.
What are the steps to reproduce the crash with your configuration? Are you using the 32-bit or the 64-bit version? Can you share me windows crash report/message?
Vyrtuoz thanks for the quick support, however that didn’t solve the problem for me. Also note that I’m running windows 7, not XP.
